The night passed peacefully.
Natalie was happy because of Clyde's presence, and her lingering discontent towards Irwin and Cedric dissipated. Due to that, she was able to sleep well.
Although Heather had been calling her, expressing her desire to be by her side, Natalie had been hesitant to accept for fear of revealing her vulnerability to her family.
Deep down, however, she longed for their company.
Girls were like that. They wanted their family by their side during the toughest times. They didn't want to show their vulnerability, but they craved their family's presence more than anything.
-
Natalie slept soundly, but for a few, sleep evaded them throughout the night.
The next morning, Lydia and Xyla hurriedly finished their breakfast before Natalie woke up. As Natalie couldn't eat due to her surgery today, they had to finish before she woke up.
"Let's go," Clyde's voice rang out.
In the next moment, he scooped Natalie up in his arms.
"Are you going with me to the surgery?" Natalie asked.
"Yes."
"What about Irwin?"
"Do you miss him?"
"Of course not!"
It was just that Irwin had always been by her side recently, and now his sudden absence felt... unsettling.
But perhaps it was for the best. Every time she heard his voice, Natalie felt a surge of anger.
In the car, Natalie sensed Irwin's presence. She understood that since Clyde arrived, he had forbidden Irwin from getting close to her.
"Cly."
"Yes?"
"Once the surgery is successful, will you take me home?"
She missed her family and Luna!
Nobody knew how much Natalie longed for Luna during this time. After all, if even her own father could hurt her, what other harm awaited Luna in the future?
Natalie wanted to be with her child. She wanted to see Luna grow up and witness every change firsthand.
"Of course," Clyde replied softly.
Natalie smiled at Clyde's response while Irwin sat in front, feeling bitter.
Three months!
During this time, she had requested to go home numerous times to both Irwin and Cedric. However, they had both refused, claiming it was for her own good.
In truth, they were selfish and wanted to pin their hopes on Edward.
Little did they know, they had wasted three months and caused Natalie unnecessary suffering!
-
At the hospital, everything was ready for the surgery. Clyde brought Natalie, and Dylan had taken care of the paperwork beforehand. They went straight to the preparation room.
In the darkness, Natalie allowed Lydia and Xyla to help her change into her gown. When Clyde entered, Natalie was sitting calmly on the bed.
"Are you afraid?" Clyde asked.
"I'm... a little scared," she admitted.
She truly was a little scared!
She had been on the operating table more than once. She could still vividly recall how those people had forcibly placed her on the surgical table in her previous life, and how she had woken up to utter darkness after that.
There hadn't been a single ray of light left in her life then!
"Cly."
"What's wrong?"
"I'm scared!" Natalie's voice trembled as she heard the cold clinking of the instruments.
Clyde realized that Natalie's trembling had intensified since the preparation. Even when she spoke, her voice was filled with uncontrollable fear and tremors.
"Don't be afraid. I'm here for you. Whatever happens, I'll be here. Try to relax a bit, okay?"
"But I... I'm still afraid...!" Natalie's voice choked up as she spoke.
That fear seemed to stem from the depths of her soul.
Cedric was lying on the other side, and he felt a shudder run through his body as he heard her words.
He knew exactly why Natalie felt such fear.
That was why he told Irwin that his presence was hell for her. When Natalie was by his side, she never had good days. Even under his watch, those people dared to treat her so brutally and caused her such fear.
Cedric... had ultimately failed to provide her with even the most basic protection.
No one knew how angry he had been when he saw the surgical consent form in his previous life.
Everything he said then was just out of anger! He never meant it! Even though he believed Natalie was behind it, he never truly wanted to see her go blind just to restore Isabella's sight.
He never... ever thought like that.
At that moment, all he felt was endless anger! He thought Natalie was retaliating against him with such actions because he hadn't explained the relationship he had with Isabella.
Little did he know, there was a massive conspiracy behind the signed consent form.
She never signed it! She never agreed to any of it. She was simply... manipulated by those people...!
As Cedric thought about this, his emotions continued to fluctuate. He dared not imagine the depth of despair Natalie must have experienced.
Yet, at her most desperate moment, he couldn't even be her support.
