He only sees Lily as someone who needs to be protected and keeps her in her own comfort zone. He never thinks of doing something to tell her that the two of them could stand together to overcome whatever difficulties.
John sits there with his forehead in his hands and laughs at himself, "One false move may lose the game. I finally know why I lose."
He would not think that much if he could turn back time and then return to the days when he just knew Lily. Things could be different today. He and Lily might be a couple.
Someone knocks on the door of the private room.
A waiter comes in and hands the small box in his hand to Louis. "Mr. Smith, here is what do you want."
"Okay, thank you."
Louis gives the small box to John. "This is a plant I got from a village when I took Lily to Turkey. It is said that this plant is called Ixora and could regenerate cells in human bodies. We have already successfully developed it."
John looks at him and says in disbelief, "I remembered that Justin's laboratory exploded and all of the samples had been destroyed. Why do you still have it?"
"We managed to keep a total of six of Ixora." Louis explains, "Five of them have been kept in the laboratory. Justin took one with him because he wanted to do some experiments with the new equipment."
John opens the box.
There is a capsule inside. The green liquid inside the capsule is bright, like vibrant life.
"The research is successful, but the medicine itself has side effects. It can only extend your lifespan by 30 to 35 years. I think you need it now, even if the effect is small."
"Thirty years is a gift for me." John twitches his lips. "Ordinary people could just live for sixty or seventy years. For someone like me, it is a miracle for me to live for another thirty years."
He asks Louis, "You can exchange this medicine for all the wealth of an old rich man and expand the Smith Group. Why do you give me this priceless treasure?"
"You also see it as a priceless treasure. Money is nothing compared to it." Louis smiles and says seriously and gratefully, "This is a gift for you. Thank you for taking care of her so well."
John says coldly, "I'm not doing this for you. I protect her because I love her!"
Louis says, "I know, but I still need to thank you. I know she's been looking for someone to save you. She doesn't want you to die so early, and neither do I."
Louis looks at his watch. He is worried that Lily would really be angry and not eat when he realizes that it is so late.
He gets up from the sofa. "I need to go take a look at her. I'll have the waiter send you back later."
When Louis walks to the door, he hears John say, "When Lily woke up in the hospital, she said that she didn't want to get pregnant. It wasn't that she didn't love the child, she was probably afraid that Jonathan would see her as your weak spot."
"When I rushed to the hospital, she had already taken the medicine. I put my finger down her throat and forced her to spit it out."
John endures the pain in his heart and says coldly, "Louis, you should thank me. If I hadn't gone to the hospital to stop her, your child would be dead by now. And you would mean nothing to her."
Louis closes his eyes and says calmly, "Thank you. You are always welcomed if you want to go to the Smith's."
The private room door is close quickly.
John looks at the green capsule in the box and laughs at himself. He has never expected that he and Louis could be friends as they used to be hostile towards each other in the past.
He smiles bitterly, "I'm really soft-hearted..."
He loves her, and doesn't want to see her sad.
They will not end up like this if he forces Lily to follow him to Country R and prevents her from returning to Yorkshire..
--
Louis asks a waiter in the clubhouse to drive for him. He is afraid that Lily has no food in her apartment and asks the waiter to go to the kitchen in the clubhouse to grab some food for takeout.
Louis rings the doorbell as he stands outside of Lily's apartment with a bag of food after taking the elevator upstairs.
"I just want to cook some noodles. I will buy you a building if I blow up your kitchen." Louis snatches the pot back easily. "There's too much dust in the kitchen. I'll clean it up. You can go out and wait."
Lily just stands there and looks at him coldly, "This is my kitchen, why should I listen to you?"
Louis does not talk to her. Instead, he pushes her out of the kitchen slightly and puts a broom in the middle so that the sliding door could not be open from outside.
Lily could not open the sliding door. She could do nothing but stare at the door.
Chandler yawned as he walks out of the bedroom. He sees Lily standing outside the kitchen with the lights on inside. He asks curiously, "Lily, what are you doing? Who is in the kitchen?"
Lily snorts, "Nobody, you need to go to sleep now!"
"I'm thirsty and come out to drink some water." Chandler walks to the refrigerator and takes a bottle of water from inside. He opens the bottle but does not intend to go back to the bedroom.
He glances at the kitchen again and asks Lily carefully, "Lily, is that Mr. John?"
"..."
Chandler says to himself, "Although Mr. John is very pitiful, Louis looks so masculine when he goes to church for you this morning so that you don't have to get married to someone you don't love. I'm sure Louis still has you in his heart! He could even give up his company for you!"
"You are just a child. You know nothing!" Lily slaps Chandler on the forehead.
"I'm young, but the Internet and TV teach me a lot of things." Chandler glances at her with a worried look, "Lily, I think you become more and more stupid after getting pregnant. Will my wife be stupid when she gets pregnant in the future?"
Lily is unable to remain calm, so she pinches his little face and says, "I am not stupid. I just happen to have too many things on my mind and can't think clearly sometimes. Do you understand?"
"Isn't that stupid? What's the difference?" Chandler asks.
