Angela’s POV

“I hope we can put our differences aside, Angela. Even if it’s just for today.”

My mom pleaded from behind me. We hadn’t talked about her shocking relationship for the past four days

We were holding Brittany’s funeral that morning. We were finally letting go of her, putting her to earth, and allowing her the rest she deserved

She adjusted my hair clip and fixed my dress as well. Reina was in the kitchen, having a bowl of cereal. She was also dressed in black like my mom and 1. She didn’t understand why we had to wear the same color of clothes but instead, she was thrilled.

“Me neither,” She replied.

I turned to her and frowned. “What”

“It’s a joke, Angela. Learn to take a joke,”

Others would’ve thought my mom was doing better since she was cracking jokes and making funny faces at Reina so she could laugh but I on the other hand was worried about her.

Last night, I was woken up by a painful wail. I came downstairs and I had to sit outside her door as I listened to my mom crying her heart out, I didn’t know when the tears began to flow and I also started crying

At some point, I opened her door and held her. We cried together without saying a word.

I held her hand.

“You shouldn’t say things like that Mon Not today of all days. Let’s send Brittany home first so she can say hi to Dad: Understand?”

She nodded while fighting to keep a smile on her face.

“And I hold nothing against you. Not anymore,”

She took a long, deep breath. “Okay. Let’s send Brittany home,

At the funeral, Darius stood beside me. Reina was with Mason. They didn’t want her to see them putting Brittany’s coffin into the ground. Darius held my hand tightly just as 1 needed it and I held my mont’s hand.

She didn’t cry, I didn’t know how she did it, I was in tears, crying my eyes out. My mom was so strong and I was a complete mess.

As we bid Brittany farewell, my mom waved at an empty space with a sad smile on her face. As the funeral ended, everybody left and I waited behind to watch the men close up the grave and put up her headstone

I wasn’t that curious about what they were doing but a stupid little part of me was waiting to see if Brittany would wake up. It was a stupid hope that Theld on to

I think I should go to my mom’s. She really needs me,

Mason took my hand while he was still carrying Reina in his hand and walked us home. They were both engrossed in a meaningless conversation that probably only the two of them understood,

Reina would ask a question, Mason would give her an answer that I believed Reina didn’t understand and she would say something not correlating to the answer and Mason would do the same. I turned to the two of them and raised an eyebrow,

“Thanks, Mason,” 

Reina was already out of his arms and dashing for the door.

“Families don’t say thank you for anything.”
