A Love Reawakened: The Alpha's Regret (Angela) novel Chapter 135

Chapter 135
BOOK 2: CHAPTER 5
Harriette
I felt my breath hitch the moment I stepped into the room and took one glance at the Alpha. Everything around me seemed to fall into a suffocating silence. It was as though something wasn't right and I just didn't know what it was.

I stood frozen, my legs stuck to the door side as my heart hammered like a wild beast. My eyes locked onto his and his presence seemed to fill the space as if one word from him would change the world. My world. Everything else at that moment seemed to be bleak and void.

His eyes were locked to mine. He hadn't said a word yet but the air between us suddenly felt charged, heavy as though his eyes spoke words his mouth didn't. He was so gorgeous if that was the right word to use for him.
What the fuck was this? Why am I feeling this way? What the hell was going on with me?

I'd never been bothered about appearances because it was vanity.
My palm felt sweaty all of a sudden.
"Come here," he commanded.
That voice! His voice was deep, resonant and it did something to me that I couldn't wrap my fingers around.

It sent a ripple through me, breaking strings of chords I didn't even know existed.
I felt my hand letting go of the door knob as something more powerful than me pulled me towards him. I had to look away because it was too much for me to handle.

"Alpha," I bowed as I stopped in front of his desk.
"Rowan. It's Alpha Rowan," I nodded. My throat felt dry as words seemed to cease from my lips. His name sounded just perfect for a person like him.
"I have your file with me. Harriette Adams?" He called my name as though it was a question.
"Yes, Alpha,"

He cleared his throat and stared at the screen in front of me. I used that opportunity to look at him again.
Everything about him felt strange, mysterious.
Rowan was just a stranger. Someone I'd never met in my entire life and yet, he didn't feel strange at all. It was as though I'd known him all my life or I was supposed to know him.
I scrunched my nose as my heart began pounding painfully and I felt a banging headache.

"You hunt?" He asked, an eyebrow raised. His eyes met mine for a few seconds and I suddenly forgot how to think. His eyes - gods, those eyes were dark and intense, boring into me like they could see straight into my soul.

Could he see my intentions too? What I'm meant to do to him? My mission?
I felt bare and naked before him.

"I asked you a question," he repeated menacingly. His voice sounded as though he was angry.
Stop acting like an idiot, Harriette. I cautioned myself.
"I'm sorry, Alpha. Yes, I hunt," I answered quickly.
"Good. Aside from hunting, what else can you do?"
Too many questions. I usually hated being queried so much but I wouldn't hate it if he kept on asking as long as he didn't stop talking.
What was wrong with me?
I shook my head.

Back in my pack, everyone had their individual roles and the one role that kept us together was our training. All I knew to do was hunt and kill.
"If you can hunt, that means you can fight," he said. I snapped my gaze towards him. I was expecting to see mockery but all I met was his serious expression.
He was serious!

"I can't fight," I answered.
He nodded slowly, my eyes following every movement of his beautiful eyes, his perfectly shaped head, and his scrumptious neck.
HARRIETTE!! My subconscious yelled.

Fuck! I was losing my mind. I was losing my sanity because of a stranger.
"We don't need a hunter for now but we do need fighters and of course, a lot more positions are available to be filled but not a hunter," he closed his laptop and stood up, staring at me.
Why the fuck was I called here then? Why did they let me in if they didn't need me?

"Listen, Harriette, we allowed you into our pack because you can hunt and we believed you could join our fighters and help one way or the other,"
If I joined the fighters, I'd let on that I was more than what they could see and that would destroy my mission in every way possible.

I would need to be extra careful and I couldn't see myself living my life like that.
"If you're not interested, you can leave my pack,"
He announced, taking me out of my train of thoughts.
I couldn't leave. There was no way I would leave when I was already here.
Something primal sparked within me. Something that made my breath shallow and my pulse race. I tapped my feet on the floor unconsciously.

His eyes slid down to my feet, watched my movement for a while and he smirked. He was the epitome of perfection. I'd seen men, a good number of them, but this one took the lead.
My mind suddenly went to ... my lover waiting at home for me. If I failed in this mission and he died, his soul would never forgive me.
