Camila smiled and took a sip of her champagne.
Bryan sidled up to Alan and whispered, "Those two, they're a couple, right?"
Alan just stared at him, momentarily speechless.
Bryan chuckled, giving Alan a playful slap on the shoulder, "Oh, come on, Alan! You can't fool me. The way they look at each other, it's like there's an invisible thread pulling them together. No affair? Who'd buy that?"
Alan just smiled without offering any further explanation.
Inside the ballroom, the music flowed smoothly as guests continuously approached Connor to toast, congratulating him on his company's successful IPO.
Connor's eyes were half-closed, a faint smile playing on his lips as if he were tipsy.
Alan, watching from the sidelines, couldn't help but laugh, knowing how well Connor could handle his liquor.
So, he played along, steadying Connor.
Connor muttered to himself now and then, staggering a bit, putting on a convincing show of being completely drunk.
"Mr. Connor's had a bit too much. I'll take him upstairs," Alan announced loudly, drawing curious glances from many guests.
He turned to Camila, "Camila, could you help me get Mr. Connor back to his room?"
Camila nodded with a smile.
Alan and Camila moved in sync, each supporting one side of Connor.
As they left the ballroom and the elevator doors closed, Connor leaned into Camila.
Alan touched his nose, sighed softly, and retreated to a corner of the elevator.
Seeing Connor's act, Camila couldn't help but chuckle, giving him a gentle tap, "Alright, stop pretending. It's just us now."
Connor immediately opened his eyes, straightened up, and leaned in close to Camila, whispering, "How’d I do? Convincing?"
Camila shook her head, amusement sparkling in her eyes.
They reached the 41st floor.
"Mr. Connor, Camila, good night," Alan said eagerly as he exited the elevator.
In the now quiet elevator, only the two of them remained. Connor turned and embraced Camila.
Startled, Camila gently pushed him away. "The cameras..."
Connor, as if he hadn't heard her, held on even tighter.
