The communication was a failure.
When Everly was lying on the bed after taking a shower, she was thinking about what Maverick had said when he sent her back.
"I hate explanation, but I am willing to explain it to you today."
He said, "Everly, you think I regard you as a pet on a whim. If so, why didn't I do anything to you when you were drugged last time?"
...
That time.
Thinking of that time, Everly felt all her strength had been suddenly sucked out from her body. She had no way to refute.
In the end, she didn't say anything. Her son and Maverick's daughter had made an appointment to celebrate their birthday. She wanted to decline with an excuse.
But now, it seemed impossible to decline.
"What to do now?"
"What should I do now?"
"Why do I think of Maverick all the time?"
She didn't want this. However, the more she resisted thinking of Maverick, the more her mind was filled with his figure and words. Any subtle actions he had done to her were infinitely magnified and repeatedly echoing in her mind.
She sighed.
She rolled around on the bed. Suddenly her phone rang.
Everly picked it up. It was Beth.
She hurriedly answered the phone, "Beth?"
"Everly, where are you?"
"I'm at home."
"Good. I'm at your door. Open it."
Everly was surprised.
She hung up the phone, leaped down, and ran to open the door.
Beth had often came to Everly's house since they were in high school, so Beth was very familiar with Everly's house. The Farleys didn't move the house all the years.
In the night, Beth was wearing black clothes and a black cap.
It looked like she was trying to avoid someone.
Everly understood it, so she brought Beth to her room.
After arriving at the room, Beth took off her cap. There was a bruise on the corner of her mouth. Everly was shocked, "What happened to you? Did someone hit you?"
It looked like a fist or a palm.
"I fought with someone. Otherwise, I wouldn't have exposed my whereabouts. Everly, I have to stay at your house for two days. They won't be able to find me here for the time being," Beth said indifferently.
Everly said, "You can stay as long as you want. But are you still hiding from Lawrence?"
"He knows I am in City C," Beth thought of something and said nastily, "I was careless. I put my passport in the hotel. I don't know how he got the news but he rushed to the hotel that day. Fortunately, I ran away fast. But that bastard took my passport and my ID card. I can't go anywhere except City C now."
Everly was speechless. Was Lawrence so crazy?
"Then what are you going to do? Are you going to keep avoiding him?"
