He had been staring at her ... legs?
Everly followed Maverick's eyes to her thighs. The skirt was in a bad shape. It was not short or transparent. So, she was only wearing panties under it. Now, she felt so embarrassed.
Maverick was a pervert?
Everly was mad and quickly covered her legs.
"Stop looking. You creep! Turn around!"
"Did you just give me an order?" Maverick asked.
"Yes, I did. This is my body. Who gives you the permission to look at my legs? Turn around!"
The silky skirt only made her more delicious when being pulled. Maverick's temples twitched. He lost control and grabbed her wrist, raising it high above her head.
Then he caught a glimpse of her red underwear.
Everly's purse fell to the ground.
She gaped at him in disbelief. "W-what are you doing?"
"Secretary Everly, have you forgotten how you straddled me last night?" he threw a question instead with a wicked smile.
She was astonished!
What had he just said?
Last night?
What had happened last night?
She had been drunk then.
But hadn't she woken up in her own bed? Moreover, her brother had driven her home. Had something happened between her and Maverick before she reached home?
Everly was a bit annoyed, because she knew very well that no matter what had happened, she couldn't remember.
She would black out when she got drunk and forget things.
No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't recall a damn.
Now Maverick had got her. She didn't know how to argue back.
"Well, I drank those for you, Mr. Maverick." Everly was running out of ways, so she claimed credit. "You brought me to that party for the first time. I did you a favor and got drunk. If we did something, it must have been a mistake, right?"
She actually said it had been a favor.
She looked meek but sounded vindictive.
Maverick sneered, "Did I ask you to do it?"
Everly was at a loss for words.
"Before I took you there, had I asked you how much you could drank? Or had I instructed you to drink for me at the table?"
Everly's eyes widened. "What do you mean...?"
"You're so smart. You can figure out on your own."
Everly felt she must have been an idiot to do that for him last night. She was suffering from a hangover and a splitting headache. This morning, she had to drink coffee to sober up despite the discomfort in her stomach. So, all that was for nothing?
"Then why didn't you stop me?" Her face grew gloomy.
"My dear secretary, you wanted to show your professionalism and loyalty so bad. How could I rob you of the chance?"
Apparently, he was mocking her.
Everly was furious but pursed her lips in silence.
It was getting weird. They shouldn't be here alone. But maybe because the elevator was shut down remotely, no one else showed up in the rush hour.
She felt the air getting thinner when he had been so close to her for so long. Besides, holding half a coffee and the skirt hem was exhausting.
"Would you please let me go home to change?"
