Her response left Michael displeased. 

He wore a stern expression.

“That was too dangerous. Did you even consider that if you had twisted your ankle or wrist, you could have ended up with a fracture? And if you landed on your head, the consequences could have been much worse!” 

Michael was angry that she did not know how to protect herself. 

She was risking her life for a stranger she barely knew. 

Chloe blinked, taking a moment before responding, “Nothing happened, though.” 

She had been scared when she contemplated jumping out of the window, but his reaction today was unexpected. 

She thought, “Was he worried about me? 

Or did he think I was just foolish and an embarrassment?” 

Hearing her nonchalant response, Michael felt like a heavy stone was pressing on his heart.

Michael put a band–aid on her and then let go of her hand. 

“If your dress was dirty, why did you not ask Rick for a phone to call me?” 

“You must be busy socializing. It is just a small matter, no need to bother you.” 

Chloe genuinely felt that it was unnecessary. 

Michael’s heart tightened at her words. 

Now, Chloe’s first reaction when encountering problems was no longer to seek his help. 

Not even as a second or third option. 

Michael felt sorry and tried to speak in a softer tone. 

“You were not this independent before.”
