After Divorcing my Captain Husband (Chloe and Michael) novel Chapter 535

Chloe's breath caught in her throat.

Michael recited her favorite poem by her favorite poet.

He recited it in his confused state as if to tell her he had read it.

She had thought he was just pretending at the Jorge Luis Borges poetry gathering, trying to create a false sense of shared interest.

But now, it was clear he had genuinely read Jorge Luis Borges' work.

Her heart ached, and a bitter taste filled her mouth. Why couldn't Michael have done this sooner? She might not have completely given up on him if he had changed a week or a month earlier.

But now, with everything settled, he decided to change for her.

He held her hand. "Chloe, is it really too late for me?"

Chloe said, "Michael, next time you meet someone you like, don't be so slow to realize it." For them, what was lost was lost.

Michael's hand fell away. Chloe stood up, looked at him, and said, "Go sleep on the sofa. You'll catch a cold on the floor."

She couldn't tell if he was truly drunk or just pretending, but by now, it didn't matter.

She closed her bedroom door, leaving Michael outside, and stopped thinking about him.

The next morning, Chloe received a call from Tom saying he was downstairs to pick up Michael.

When Chloe opened the door, she found Michael standing in her living room, wearing just a shirt and underwear. He said, "My clothes..."

"I, uh, threw them away." Chloe regretted forgetting to wash them last night.

As they both stood there, unsure of what to do, Chloe tossed him a towel. "Use this," she said.

Michael was puzzled. His gaze then dropped, and he realized his predicament. He had forgotten about morning wood.

Michael looked at Chloe and pressed his lips. "You've seen it before." He thought, "Why does she become more and more shy after the divorce?"

Chloe snapped back, "That was different! We were married then. But now we have nothing to do with each other!"

Unfazed by her retort, he replied, "If you want, we could be married again."

It was typical of him to lay traps with his words. "I don't want that!" Chloe shot back.

Michael's face darkened, and just then, the doorbell rang. Chloe opened the door to a man holding a bag. "Ms. Nelson, these are Mr. Shawn's clothes."

Chloe took the bag and handed it to Michael, who was behind her.

"Ms. Nelson, Sir Shawn asked if you could come down with us," the man added.

Chloe was taken aback. "Admas is here?" She had assumed it was just Tom.

Michael, now dressed, walked over. "Let's go. Grandpa is waiting for us."

Chloe hesitated. She felt she had said everything necessary to Admas last time and saw no point in going. But then, a thought struck her. "Wait a moment."

She went to her bedroom, retrieved something, and after changing her shoes, said, "Okay, let's go."

In the car, Admas' face lit up as soon as he saw Chloe. "Chloe, thank you so much for last night!"

Chloe smiled slightly, "No problem." There was nothing to thank for. She had just let Michael sleep on the sofa.

"I've reserved breakfast at Elite Fare. Let's have a bite together," Admas suggested.
