After Divorcing my Captain Husband (Chloe and Michael) novel Chapter 558

Chloe blinked, then looked back up at the sky. "It's beautiful. I can't believe the organizers have managed to keep it going for ten minutes straight. Must have cost a fortune. I'd love to cash in on this kind of extravagance."

Michael quietly stayed by her side, both of them gazing at the fireworks.

Chloe was so absorbed in the spectacle that she didn't notice Michael's eyes were solely focused on her, even though it seemed like he was admiring the fireworks.

Meanwhile, a little further back, Quinn and Candy noticed the exchange.

Quinn's face was a mask of dejection.

He had hoped that after Chloe's divorce, he might muster the courage to confess his feelings, but the timing never seemed right.

Tonight, he had planned to confess during the fireworks, but with Michael showing up, his plans were dashed once more.

Quinn sighed deeply.

Jessica, sitting next to him, noticed his mood. "Quinn, don't lose hope. There will be a chance. You'll get your moment with Chloe."

In the roar of fireworks, her words went unheard by the crowd.

The fireworks continued to light up the sky, but Chloe's attention was caught by a vendor selling sparklers nearby. Many people were buying them for their children.

The plaza was bathed in the soft glow of changing colored lights, creating a particularly dreamy atmosphere.

Chloe thought that ending her last day of relaxation in her home country with such a spectacle wasn't too bad.

"Candy, let's go get some sparklers!" Chloe stood up and suggested enthusiastically.

Candy, eager for one last adventure with Chloe, readily agreed.

The group of girls headed towards the vendor, leaving Michael and Quinn behind, awkwardly staring at each other.

"I'd like some sparklers."

"One bunch of sparklers!"

The two voices came almost in unison. Chloe looked up and was surprised to see James.

Chloe asked, "You're... also into this?"

James paid for the sparklers and handed them to a nearby crying child. The moment the child received them, he stopped crying and happily bounced off to find his friends.

Chloe watched the scene, feeling oddly perplexed.

"Don't look at me like that. I just made the kid cry earlier. Bought the sparklers to get him to quiet down," James explained.

"And how exactly did you make him cry?" Candy, ever quick with her questions, asked.

"He stepped on my shoe."

Everyone was speechless.

They hadn't expected James to be a clean freak.

Chloe took some of her sparklers and extended them toward James. "Here, have some."

James hesitated, looking at the half of her face illuminated by the fireworks before finally accepting the sparklers.

Seeing James standing next to Chloe, Michael immediately made his way over, and Quinn followed suit.

As more people arrived, Michael grew increasingly uneasy.
