Raising a child was no small expense. From kindergarten all the way to junior high, the costs added up quickly.
Nowadays, just a month of kindergarten could cost tens of thousands, not to mention if they take hobby or tutoring classes; the money just flows like water.
She was working so hard to earn money now just so her future kids could study whatever they wanted and play whatever they wanted.
And what James meant by that includes everyday expenses, too.
Chloe looked at him thoughtfully. "Do you mean what you say?"
James snorted, "When have I ever not meant what I say?"
He did mean it, like when he said he would buy her a car. He did buy it, even if it meant turning her into a walking billboard for a while.
But it was a Porsche 911, after all.
"Until high school!"
Chloe thought for a moment, then dropped a bombshell.
James was shocked. "Chloe, you're taking advantage of me!"
It already cost a fortune to raise a child until junior high, and she was asking him to cover the expenses all the way to high school.
The child wasn't even his.
If the child were to attend school in their home country, the nine years of compulsory education wouldn't cost much, but if they were abroad, it would be a different story.
It's not the tuition that's expensive. It's all the other miscellaneous expenses.
But Chloe also reflected on whether she was really taking advantage of him, whether it was a bit unethical.
After thinking it over, she looked into James' eyes and said thoughtfully, "Take it or leave it."
Absolutely, she was seizing the opportunity!
If Calvin breached the contract, Bright Moon Entertainment would owe a hefty sum in damages, not to mention the endorsements he currently held, which were another chunk of change.
She had roughly calculated it; this deal wouldn't cost James much.
As for being ruthless, she didn't really see herself as a cutthroat businesswoman.
James was grinding his teeth in frustration.
Ever since he met Chloe, she had never been at a disadvantage, always wise to the core.
"Okay, high school, then. Deal, you'll start tomorrow."
Chloe's mouth split into a grin as she whispered, "After the baby is born, I'll have him call you godfather, the best godfather!"
James felt the anger inside him dissipate somewhat at the mention of "godfather".
He had never been anyone's godfather before.
The thought of soon having a little one by his side calling him godfather... suddenly struck him as quite amusing.
And the child would be Michael's; he could teach the kid a thing or two about giving Michael a hard time...
Well, at that thought, he suddenly burst out laughing.
"James, don't laugh so creepily!"
People who didn't know better might think he was plotting something unsavory. Chloe began to reconsider whether to let her child recognize him as godfather.
"By the way, is his last name Beckinsale or Martinez?"
Chloe had been pondering this question for over a month now.
James gave her a look as if she were an idiot. "One's a stage name, the other's his real name."
Stars often consult fortune tellers before debuting to see if their names will bring fame, and if not, they choose a stage name that might.
Christopher - that name just screams artsy and pretentious.
The next day, Chloe changed into something more casual for her first visit to the TV series set.
Surrounded by a complex array of equipment, she walked with a constant stoop, wary of knocking anything over.
