Chapter 664 So Tense

"James, if you continue this way, I'll never speak to you again," Chloe threatened, hoping to make him back off.

But instead, she heard his voice, a mix of exasperation and indulgence. "Chloe, I've told you before, you don't need to be so tense around me. Why do you keep winding yourself up like this?"

Chloe froze in place, even forgetting to struggle.

Sensing her emotions stabilizing, James slowly released her, saying, "What are you afraid of? It's not contagious, and you might not even have it. We're friends, and if you think you can push me away, you're dreaming."

Chloe was at a loss for words to describe her feelings.

"Come downstairs and see what your grandfather sent over," James said.

After a moment of consideration, Chloe followed James down the stairs.

Michael was directing the workers, and his eyes lit up when he saw Chloe. "Chloe, where would you like this sofa to be placed?"

Although not particularly interested, Chloe replied, "Just put it in the original spot."

She subconsciously tried to keep a distance from Michael, but whenever she attempted to move, she would meet James' penetrating gaze.

He didn't say a word, but his expression warned her not to dare take a step.

Helpless, she remained in place, hoping Michael wouldn't approach her.

After all the items were delivered, Michael walked up to her with a smile and naturally took her hand. "You didn't eat dinner, so I asked William to bring some food. Have a bite to tide you over."

Chloe stiffened and looked down at his hand holding hers.

She couldn't understand why both James and Michael weren't afraid of her.
