CHAPTER 467 AN UNEXPECTED ACCIDENT
Madeline watched Noah stagger toward her with a sly grin. The sight shocked her in place. Fear rushed through her when he raised her chin to make her look into his eyes.
After all, she had to get into the role of an average and demure woman.
The scene was fairly short but she found herself unable to withstand the teasing lilt in his voice. He ad-libbed a few lines and played up his actions until her face turned red.
The director and Mackenzie shared a look when the latter helpfully covered the child's eyes as Noah inched close to kiss Madeline.
Hey, Mr. Quincy, can you pay more attention to your surroundings? Your kid is still here. Get a room.
The answer is no. My wife is not going to let me touch her when we get home.
"You really are an all-rounder, Mr. Quincy! Your acting skills are great." The director finally made an appearance to interrupt the duo.
That was painful to watch,
Noah's demeanor changed when he turned around. He gave the director a condescending look. "Are you sure I don't need to try again?"
The director's heart was beating out of his chest. Why can't you just kiss her when you get home? Stop making my life so hard.
"I-I guess you could try again?" The director replied weakly.
Noah nodded in satisfaction but Madeline was not having it. She got off the stage. "What audition allows retries? If you can do it, you can do it. If you can't, you're out. Uphold your integrity, director."
"My integrity means nothing here," he silently muttered to himself. With a face full of smiles, he said to her, "Mr. Quincy is a busy man. Perhaps we could just film this scene today."
"Can do." Noah walked back to set at a brisk pace. He didn't forget to take his daughter along.
"How did Daddy do?" He asked her.
She inclined her head to think about it before answering, "Daddy's so good at it. You were exactly like the perverts in the streets."
Her words had him speechless. What a role to put himself in.
If it meant acting alongside his wife, he'd do anything.
The staff began setting the scene while the crew brought Noah a change of clothes. It took them a while to find something for him that was both in line with his identity and relatively new.
Noah wrinkled his nose at it. He had never had to wear clothes worn by others in his life.
"Is this what you usually wear when you're here to film?"
Mackenzie shook her head. "Auntie Elise prepares my clothes for me. She and Mommy made them."
Noah nodded in understanding. It seemed he and Madeline being here was too sudden for them to prepare something appropriate for him.
He sought out the director. "Call off the shooting today. We'll do it tomorrow."
The director was taken aback but seemed entirely relieved to hear the news.
"Of course. We'll go according to your schedule, Mr. Quincy."
Madeline was throwing him suspicious looks when he said, "Have Elise prepare us some clothes."
"If you don't like it, just let it go. You're a special case anyway," Madeline whispered.
Noah pinched her cheek and chuckled, "Who do you think I'm doing this for?"
She looked away to avoid his hands. The family of three then burst into laughter.
The director watched their distant silhouettes and felt envious. He had piled work after work on himself his entire life. He had the money and the fame but no family. There was no one by his side to warm his bed.
He wasn't as good as Noah who never went out of his way to mess around and treated his wife and children as if they were treasures. Work-life balance only improved when no conflict arose in their private lives.
Madeline gave Thomas a call when she got back to the car. Relief rushed over her at the news that both her sons were alright. Her decision to join the crew was to both take care of Mackenzie and draw out the person behind the odd happenings.
Noah had likely already seen through her but chose to let her be. He compromised by staying by her side. That was why she said nothing to send him away despite him loitering on set.
"Charmed by your husband?" Noah, who had been staring ahead unblinkingly, suddenly turned his head to look at her.
Her heart skipped a beat at having been caught staring and hurriedly looked away.
"Stop being smart with me. Eyes on the road."
"Daddy can stop being a president now. Become an actor, okay? We can act together on set." Mackenzie poked her head to the front.
Life would be perfect if the family could be together.
Madeline snorted and said teasingly, "That sounds like a good idea. Mr. Quincy's acting skills are oh-so-great after all. He'd be a great actor."
"I would like to but who would dare cast me in a role?" He replied nonchalantly.
He was right. He only got the part because Madeline was in it and she knew the director well. Noah himself insisted on taking the role too. The machine wouldn't be running like a well-oiled machine otherwise.
If Noah took the role of the main male lead, how were the other actors going to be able to rival them? The entire show would end up a bust!
What director would go out of their way to make Noah's life difficult? Everyone still treasured their careers.
The mere thought of it had Mackenzie and Madeline shaking their heads. What a terrifyingly bad idea.
"You should laugh more, Daddy. You're less scary when you smile," Mackenzie suggested.
Noah stayed silent with Madeline explaining, "Your father leads a large corporation. If he smiles all the time, no one will listen to him. You know how directors are always very grumpy and take it out on the actors? It's not because they like to yell at us. It's because no one would listen if they didn't yell."
"Daddy has an okay temper. Daddy didn't yell at Uncle Dylan when he blew up the lab." What a kind father she had.
Noah raised a brow at Madeline. Look at me, I'm such a great husband. Better cherish me well.
Madeline was rendered speechless.
That was when an accident happened.
The road ahead suddenly collapsed with no time for him to stop the car.
The car was just about to fall headlong into a pit. If they were lucky enough to get out of this one alive, they'd be crippled for life.
Noah jerked the steering wheel, intending to toss Madeline out of the car as the car turned but the woman was far quicker than him. She shot a wire into a pole by the road.
She quickly tied the other end of the wire to her seat.
Their vehicle was left suspended in midair. The others on the road were not so lucky. The cars fell right into the cavity and were smashed to smithereens.
