And yet, when it came to Mia, Hunter wouldn’t spare a cent. 

“Oh, come on, stop being jealous,” Jenna’s sweet voice dripped with pride. “I know plenty of rich heirs from high society. Maybe one day Hunter can set something up so you can all meet. You never know if sparks might fly!” 

Min took a deep breath, suppressing the ache in her heart. Hunter would go to any length for Jenna. He would probably reach for the stars if she asked him to 

After hearing Jenna bask in their admiration, Mia waited until they left before stepping out. She messaged Mandy to grab her bag, and once she had it, she quietly left. 

That night, Haven City was buzzing with Jenna’s extravagant fireworks show. Word spread quickly that Jenna was adored beyond measure by her wealthy fiancé. 

Mia clutched her blanket tightly, and it was nearly dawn before she finally drifted into sleep 

The next morning, after a successful trial, Mia returned to the firm, visibly worn out. 

As soon as she entered her office, Mandy approached her, whispering. “Mia, looks like we might be getting a new team leader, and I heard you’re out of the running.” 

Mia smiled faintly. Recalling the call she received from her boss on the way back, she replied, “Thanks, Mandy. Could you start organizing the case files for Monday? I’ll go see the boss.” 

But as she stepped into the office, she was stunned to find Hunter there. 

Before she could ask why, her boss greeted her. “Mia, come meet our new firm owner, Mr. Hunter Jasper, CEO of Genesis Corporation. As of today, he’s our new boss at HH Law Firm.” 

Mia froze for a second, wondering if Hunter, feeling guilty about last night’s lavish birthday celebration for Jenna, had bought the firm as a way to make it up to her. 

“Mia, what are you doing just standing there? Go on, greet Mr. Jasper!” her boss urged. 

Collecting herself, Mia walked up to Hunter, and in a soft voice, said, “Honey. 

Fine, she would let this slide. After all, he had just bought her the firm, right? 

Her boss practically jumped out of his skin, his voice trembling. “M–Mia, you can’t call him that! Call him‘ boss,‘ not ‘honey“!” 

Rumor had it that this Mr. Jasper was utterly devoted to his wife and kept his distance from other women. For Mia to casually call him “honey“. Was she out of her mind? 

Mia reached up to adjust Hunter’s collar, smiling warmly. “Is this my surprise?” 

After all, she still loved him. Even the smallest gesture from him made her happy. 

Her boss looked on, terrified. Mia usually had such self–restraint. What was going on? Could she actually be involved with Mr. Jasper?
