"Has no one ever taught you not to be so hard on yourself?"
For many things, even if you know it in your heart, it's better for everyone if you don't say it out loud.
Selena lowered her eyelashes lightly. "Hasn't Uncle told you what my relationship is with the people who wiped out your entire Turner family?"
Patrick's knuckles made a heavy sound.
At this moment, he suddenly understood why Oscar had been cold to Selena before.
And he fully understood why Selena had been deliberately distancing herself from the Turner family.
After a long time, Patrick spoke up, "The Turner family doesn't have the habit of transferring anger, and you've already done enough."
In Selena's position, no one could have done better than her.
Selena's slender fingers gently brushed over her eyes. "But I also took over the identity and body of your real cousin... it's not fair to her that the Turner family has accepted me."
Patrick seemed to be shaken, but he smiled, "Father asked me to give you a message before I came here."
Selena looked up at him.
Patrick said, "Father said that becoming a daughter of the Turner family is not your fault. He even thanks you for giving the Turner family's daughter a chance to continue living."
There was a flicker of emotion in Selena's eyes.
There seemed to be something more to Oscar's words... but it seemed like he was purely thanking her, helping that girl wash away the injustice and stigma, and letting her life shine brightly.
While Selena was lost in thought, Patrick continued speaking, his voice tinged with sadness, "She's a kind girl. She hasn't blamed any of the people who hurt her, let alone the person who helped her so much."
"You don't owe anyone anything, don't burden yourself with any guilt."
Selena rubbed her forehead with her hand, suppressing some emotion, and smiled at Patrick. "Patrick, you can go back now."
Patrick observed her expression and saw nothing unusual, so he breathed a sigh of relief and brought Selena back to the Turner family.
It had only been three days since the engagement banquet, and the festive decorations of the Turner family had not yet been taken down.
Oscar had recovered most of his legs and was sitting in the hall. When he saw Patrick bring Selena in, he turned his head to look.
Selena smiled, "Uncle."
Oscar observed her expression for a moment before speaking, "There have been many unexpected guests in the capital recently, and there have been some movements from the Shaw family. 'Sacred Pearl' may reappear soon, so be careful recently."
Selena sat down across from Oscar and asked, "Uncle, have you seen Eden?"
Oscar nodded and said, "Yes, I have. The memories before he was twelve years old are a blank slate, and we still can't determine whether it was an accident or intentional..."
Selena lightly tapped her slender fingers on the table and said, "But regardless, he's found my father's only clue, and we must make him remember."
The underground city was a troublesome matter and a great one at that.
Oscar looked at her pensive expression and put down his water glass. "My advice is you should return to the central city."
Selena looked surprised and asked, "I thought you would be more anxious than me..."
After all, Callum was likely in the underground city, and the Turner family was more eager to find him than she was.
