Selena lay in bed, listening to the sound of water coming from the bathroom. She bit her lip and waited for Osvaldo to emerge, which he did about half an hour later wearing his pajamas.
He climbed into bed and Selena instinctively snuggled up to him, finding a comfortable spot in his arms. Looking up at him she asked, "What's wrong?"
Osvaldo looked down at his little wife who had big round eyes that were pure and filled with concern.
After a moment of silence, he raised his hand and ran it through her hair before asking suddenly, "Selena, what if I was keeping something very serious from you? What would you do?"
Selena blinked as she thought carefully for a moment before answering seriously. "As long as you're not hiding anything from me involving other women then I'll forgive you."
This was her bottom line when it came to Osvaldo.
As for everything else... Selena felt like she could forgive this man for anything.
Osvaldo saw the seriousness in Selena's eyes and fell silent again before finally asking quietly,"What if... it had something to do with the Empire?"
Selena observed Osvaldo's expression closely before leaning closer and staring into his eyes as she asked,"Did you accidentally harm someone close to me because of your involvement with them?"
This time Osvaldo remained silent even longer than before but unexpectedly denied it saying,"No."
Selena breathed a sigh of relief instantly smiling brightly saying,"That's good then! For everything else I can forgive you!"
Osvaldo stared at her intently for several moments before whispering softly,"When we return home I'll tell you something."
"Okay." Selena replied happily.
She touched the man's tired eyes and leaned in to give him a kiss. "Sleep, I'll stay with you," she whispered.
Osvaldo turned off the lights and held his little wife close, closing his eyes.
...
After two days of calm in the capital city, a response finally arrived from Central City.
Miss Lillian, the governing official of Central City, would personally go to the capital city to resolve this incident.
Patrick arrived at the villa early in the morning.
Selena woke up late and saw Patrick waiting for her when she came downstairs. "Cousin, has there been any news from District Six?" she asked with a raised eyebrow.
Patrick nodded and looked at her with concern. "Father asked me to tell you that Miss Lillian brought three things with her to the capital city."
"Those three things are likely to make it impossible for District Six officials to refuse a settlement," he continued. "And once they settle, Robert will be released without charge."
Selena's face showed no surprise. If Lillian were a simple person, she wouldn't have been able to commit regicide like this. In matters of power exchange always come first.
The capital city was both Selena's background and her constraint now that she had enjoyed its benefits; naturally there would be costs as well.
Selena sat down at the table and nodded. "I understand, cousin. I have an idea of what's going on."
Compared to the three things Lillian brought, Selena was more interested in what her father had arranged for her.
But even with Lab 717 present, the research patents from Central City Research Institute were not enough to make those in District Six excited.
So... what exactly did Lillian bring with her to the capital?
