Lillian heard the commotion and turned to see Selena's gaze upon her. She smiled and nodded in acknowledgement.
Principal Wen furrowed his brow and approached them. "Miss Turner."
Selena smiled, "My sister has an entrance exam today, I came to check on her."
Principal Wen was taken aback. He thought Selena had come because of the news that Lillian was taking Robert away.
But it turned out she was here for Hattie.
Selena calmly walked over to sit on Lillian's right side, looking towards the bustling entrance exam taking place on the field.
It was easy for her to spot Hattie among the group of students. The young girl wore a military green combat uniform as she quickly and agilely passed through one obstacle after another. Her face glistening with sweat, eyes focused ahead with a cold yet determined look as she left her peers behind in pursuit of her dream.
The surrounding cheers and encouragement were deafening.
Lillian followed Selena's gaze and remembered herself at that age, feeling momentarily lost in thought. "This young girl is truly admirable..."
Selena chuckled lightly, "Her future will be even more admirable."
Lillian laughed too, "You're right about that."
No one understood better than Lillian what Hattie meant to Selena.
At thirteen years old, this empress-to-be not only chased after her dreams so fiercely but couldn't even handle basic running exercises without collapsing from exhaustion.
Her Majesty the Empress's life over the past decade has been nothing short of perfect, except for her weak physical health which remains her biggest regret.
Upon seeing a young girl who resembled her so much and possessed such strong character, she couldn't help but take an interest in nurturing her.
Of course, given Lillian's personality, even if Selena were to openly reveal this weakness to her, she would not stoop so low as to involve an innocent young girl.
Lillian stared at Hattie for a moment before relaxing back into her seat and asking in a calm voice, "Miss Turner, just tell me what it will take for you to release Robert?"
As soon as these words left Lillian's mouth, all eyes on the platform turned towards them with varying expressions.
The ruler of Central City had personally come to the capital with the intention of taking Robert away and had even offered up three precious treasures. But he returned empty-handed.
With Osvaldo and Lab 717 watching closely and Selena refusing to budge on the matter at hand, there was no way Lillian could take Robert away from them.
Lillian had chosen Union University today in order to gain access into District Six. However it was clear that this negotiation had failed miserably.
Knowing that Principal Oscar was affiliated with The Turner family meant that this avenue was blocked off completely. And thus we have arrived at this scene...
Upon hearing these words Selena turned towards Lillian with a slow smile forming on her lips,"Anything goes?"
Meeting Selena's gaze head-on, Lilian replied,"As long as Miss Turner is willing to let go of Robert then anything is possible."
Selena chuckled,"If I didn't know any better I'd almost think you were romantically interested in him by how much you care about him."
Lillian paused and gave her a meaningful look. "Robert is my most loyal right-hand man, and I have an obligation to protect him."
A wave of exhilarating screams erupted from the crowd as Hattie crossed the finish line first.
Selena turned to look.
The little girl stood on the finish line, her dark eyes fixed on a target in the distance. She smoothly raised her gun, pulled back the bolt, and squeezed the trigger--
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Ten consecutive shots hit dead center.
"Amazing!"
Even many of the teachers standing on the platform couldn't help but stand up and applaud at such accuracy.
