Chapter 277 Grievance And Embarrassment
With the arrival of Uncle Tom, dinner had officially begun.
Although it was Aunt Eleanor’s birthday party, the people who attended were all biological relatives. It was also not as grand as a usual banquet.
With Tom’s current position and status, if he were too extravagant, he would be criticized and be the object of people’s speculation. There would probably even be unfavorable rumors about him.
It was better to sit together as a family like this and have a simple meal. The atmosphere was harmonious.
After dinner, Rachel handed over the gift that she had carefully chosen.
Sure enough, Eleanor’s eyes lit up when she saw it, a delighted smile spreading across her face.
Charles held back the admiration in his eyes and asked, “Is this the blue diamond that appeared in the Fujiby auction last night?”
Rachel nodded. “Yes.”
Hearing this, Charles could not help sighing quietly. She indeed had deep. pockets!
“As expected of a lady from the Johnson family. You’re so generous.” A peculiar voice called out.
The person who spoke was the youngest daughter of the Page family, Katy, who was two years younger than Rachel.
However, Katy had been at odds with Rachel since they were young and had seen Rachel as her rival for many years.
Charles‘ brows furrowed slightly, his eyes cold. “Today is Aunt’s birthday. Behave yourself!”
“Charles, why are you always on her side? Don’t forget that I’m your biological sister!”
Katy deliberately emphasized the word “biological“.
While reminding Charles, she also seemed to be reminding Eleanor of this
fact.
In terms of blood relations, Katy was Eleanor’s niece. However, her aunt had
always doted on Rachel. In fact, the entire Page family favored Rachel, knowingly or unknowingly.
Katy felt that Rachel had stolen the love and attention from the family that should have belonged to her.
Hence, she had hated Rachel ever since they were young.
As soon as Katy finished speaking, the atmosphere at the dining table suddenly became a little more solemn.
Katy’s words were directed at Rachel, which naturally made Tom unhappy. Without regard for how it would reflect on him if he snapped at his niece, he defended Rachel. “Rae–Rae is a Johnson!”
In other words, Rachel was attending Eleanor’s birthday party as a Johnson, which had nothing to do with the Page family.
His tone was very calm, without the slightest fluctuation. However, his voice
was cold.
Katy had always been afraid of her uncle.
Seeing that Tom was slightly angry, Katy sat in her seat silently, her face
ashen.
At that moment, Lucas chuckled. “Katy, no one would force you to come if you didn’t want to. Since you’re here, don’t make things difficult for yourself.”
How dare she embarrass Rae–Rae in public? She was asking for trouble!
Katy always knew that Lucas protected Rachel fiercely, almost like he was protecting something fragile.
She dug her fingers into her palms, enduring her feelings of grievance and
embarrassment.
Noticing the atmosphere, Charles quickly stood up to apologize. “Aunt Eleanor, Katy is young and doesn’t know any better. Please don’t take it to heart.”
