Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David) novel Chapter 481

Chapter 481

“It’s fine, Miss Jones.” Old Mr. Johnson said neutrally before continuing, “We’ve just started as well. You are welcome to join us.”

Marina raised her hand and gestured for the waiter to bring her a new set of cutlery.

She casually picked up a napkin and slowly spread it out in front of her before saying, “I heard that you were hospitalized not too long ago but now it seems that you’ve recovered pretty well.”

When Old Mr. Johnson heard this, a dark glint flashed across his turbid eyes.

In order to avoid unnecessary suspicion and prevent the other employees of the company from causing trouble, Old Mr. Johnson made sure that the news that he had been hospitalized had not been spread.

Nobody else knew about it besides his own family members and Old Mr. Shain.

However, Marina seemed to know about it clearly. Not only that, she undoubtedly announced it in front of everyone so that she could flaunt how powerful she was.

“The Johnson family has dominated Seaxas for so many years and of course, your contributions are indispensable. However, now that you’re getting old, it’s inevitable that you’re not as powerful as you’d like to be. So why don’t you just step down early? I bet everyone else will praise you for having great foresight.”

Marina’s tone was very nonchalant but her words were as sharp and cold as icicles. The atmosphere of the whole dining hall turned cold instantly.

No one dared to say a word. The younger ones’ eyes were mixed with gloating smiles as they secretly sized up Old Mr. Johnson’s expression.

The Johnson family had dominated Seaxas for many years. They were like a small kingdom as their wealth and power grew larger and larger.

Although nobody else could catch up to them, many others yearned to replace them.

Some have even hoped that one day, the Johnson family would fall from their position and lose everything.

Marina’s words undoubtedly pointed out the unrealistic thoughts that many others had.

“Who do you think should take Old Mr. Johnson’s place then, Miss Jones?” Rachel placed her arm on the table. Her slender fingers caressed the silver knife as her red lips curled into a perfect smile. There was an imperceptible coldness in the depths of her almond-shaped eyes.

Marina glanced at Rachel and replied, “Being the richest is nothing more than a title. Although the Johnson family holds that title now, it might still fall to the

Justin family or the Cruise family tomorrow, right?”
