Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David) novel Chapter 758

Chapter 758

After half an hour, the car stopped in front of a seemingly run-down building.

Lucas’s expression couldn’t help but darken when he saw the surrounding environment.

Due to the special nature of Tom’s position, his detention was definitely not a typical one.

Except for the people from the investigation team, no one else knew about the specific personnel or location.

On the way here, he had imagined many places where his father might be detained, but he never thought his father would be held in a place like this.

The surroundings were desolate, with no signs of life. Even if a mouse came, it would shake its head and sigh. Let alone a human.

The car door opened, and the group got out of the car.

Eddie took the lead and stepped forward to knock on the iron gate that came into view.

Before long, a strong flashlight shone in their faces.

Rachel instinctively squinted her eyes and reached out to shield herself. She vaguely saw a man in uniform through the gaps between her fingers.

When the man saw David, he immediately opened the door and walked out from inside. He called out respectfully, “Mr. Jones.”

With a slight nod, David maintained his usual aloof and cold demeanor. “Let’s go.”

“Yes.”

When the staff turned around, his gaze quickly swept past Rachel.

Rachel naturally noticed the other party’s scrutinizing glance. She smiled quietly and lowered her eyes to conceal the emotions in her eyes.

The person’s attitude towards David made her ponder deeply.

Rachel had always believed that David commanded respect due to his status as

the head of the Jones family in the independent state of Aureliana. However, it seemed like that was only the tip of the iceberg.

In the eyes of some sensitive departments, the class consciousness of peasants, workers, and merchants was still very much ingrained.

Therefore, they would never show such respect to a businessman like David.

Thinking of this, she couldn’t help but glance at the man beside her.

The dim lighting fell on his body, accentuating his sharply defined facial features.

His deep-set black eyes seemed like unfathomable abysses that were hard to read.

She often couldn’t help but wonder what they would be like now if she hadn’t met David outside the church that day.

Sensing her gaze, David turned his head to look at her.

The moment their eyes met, Rachel was slightly stunned. Then, she smiled and took a deep breath. She curled her fingers tightly around his hand.

The corners of David’s lips curled up involuntarily. His eyes were filled with tenderness as he held Rachel’s hand tightly and led her forward.

Following behind, Lucas could not help but roll his eyes.

These two really couldn’t stop flaunting their affection.

As they walked, their expressions became even more solemn as they noticed the signs hanging on the walls and the large letters printed on them.

They walked upstairs and noticed two staff members standing outside a room.

“I’ve already informed them about you coming,” David whispered into Rachel’s ear. “Go. I’ll wait for you outside.”

Rachel glanced at him from the corner of her eyes. Her eyes shimmered with emotions that were hard to conceal.

David reached out and stroked her hair. His tone was indulgent and loving as he spoke. “Go ahead.”

As the door opened, Rachel and Lucas walked in with the guidance of the staff.

Watching them enter, David put his hand in his pocket and walked towards the window. He glanced at Eddie indifferently. “Have you found out everything?”

“We can confirm that someone is trying to scheme against Mr. Johnson, but…”

“Just cut to the chase.” David glared at him.

Eddie pursed his lips and took a step forward. He whispered in David’s ear. “Based on the current investigation, their main target is not Mr. Johnson, but Miss Grey and the Johnson family, who’s supporting her.”

Hearing this, David lifted his indifferent gaze and looked at Eddie. A sharp gaze flashed across his eyes.

He looked past Eddie and shifted his gaze to the room’s tightly closed door.

The room’s furnishings were simpler than Rachel and Lucas had imagined.

Apart from the bed, there was only a desk and a chair, and all doors and windows were sealed. The first thing they felt upon entering the room was suffocation.

At this moment, Tom was sitting in a chair with his back facing the door. He looked up at the lonely night outside the window.

Hearing the footsteps behind him, he did not turn around. He only said firmly, “I told you many times. I won’t admit to something I haven’t done. No matter how many times you ask, there will always be only one answer.”

Even though he was in dire straits, he could not hide his noble aura.

Tom could not help but frown when he noticed the person behind him did not respond for a long time. When he looked back and saw Rachel and Lucas, the composure and calmness on his face disappeared instantly.

He stood up abruptly and asked, “Why are you here?”

Their appearance was indeed beyond his expectations.

His identity and position were too special. Not only was there an independent investigation team interrogating him, but he was also strictly forbidden from communicating with anyone outside.

Moreover, according to the rules, they could not have found their way here under any circumstances.

Tom knew well that he had been framed, and if he could clear his name, it would

be a stroke of luck. But if he couldn’t…
