Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David) novel Chapter 769

Chapter 769

When Rachel returned to the bedroom, Old Mr. Johnson had already gotten up and walked to the window.

“Grandpa, why are you up?” Rachel walked in and quickly placed the food on the table. She picked up a thin shirt and placed it on Old Mr. Johnson’s shoulder. “You’ve just recovered. What if you catch a cold?”

Old Mr. Johnson looked at Rachel’s face which resembled Sophia’s. There was a rare gentleness in his eyes.

He patted Rachel’s hand, then slowly turned around and walked toward the little coffee table.

The two of them ate in silence. Old Mr. Johnson slowly stirred the soup in the bowl with a spoon. His sharp eyes looked at Rachel from time to time. After thinking for a long time, he slowly said, “Rae-Rae, how did Tom come out this time?”

Rachel slowed her chewing movements slightly. She slowly lowered her head to hide the expression in her eyes. “Of course, it’s because the investigation team has found out the truth.”

Hearing this, Old Mr. Johnson could not help but raise his eyebrows.

Although he had never stepped into politics, he more or less understood the rules and regulations.

Previously, the anonymous letters were all testifying against Tom. It could be said that the evidence was conclusive, giving Tom no chance to make a comeback.

Under such circumstances, Tom would probably not be able to come out for the rest of his life.

However, in just two to three days, not only did the investigation team find other evidence to prove Tom’s innocence, they even released him. Naturally, there was someone behind the scenes to help.

He picked up the bowl in front of him and took a small sip of soup. “You, can hide this from others, but you can’t hide it from me. Tell me honestly, did you ask for help from David?”

Rachel was stunned. She looked up at Old Mr. Johnson and nodded gently. “I didn’t ask for help from him, but he did help a lot.”

Although without David’s help, she and Lucas would also think of ways to save Tom, it would not be as fast as now.

“I knew it.” Old Mr. Johnson snorted and put down the bowl in his hand, making a neither loud nor soft sound. “He won’t let go of any chance to please our Johnson family!”

Rachel took a napkin and slowly wiped the corners of her mouth. “Grandpa, he did help us this time. We should thank him.”

“Thank him?” Old Mr. Johnson raised his chin slightly and snorted arrogantly. “He clearly has ill intentions. Why should I thank him?

He knew what David was planning!

Seeing that Old Mr. Johnson was biased against David, Rachel did not dare to say anything more.

She was afraid that her words would have the opposite effect.

The room fell silent for a moment. Old Mr. Johnson pondered for a moment and said calmly. “Do you have any thoughts about your uncle being framed this time?”

“I’ve always thought that our Johnson family has money and status. No one can replace our position in Seaxas. However, when Uncle Tom encountered danger this time, I suddenly realized it’s useless that we have only money and status. We still need power,” Rachel said. “Uncle Tom almost got into trouble this time. Although we don’t expect our partners to help, if such a thing happens again, it’s hard to guarantee that they won’t take the opportunity to hit us when we’re in trouble.”

Hearing her words, a gratified smile flashed across Old Mr. Johnson’s

eyes.

He looked at Rachel. “Then what do you think we should do?”

What should they do….

Actually, Rachel already had an answer in her heart, but she did not want to do so.

She lowered her eyes. “I don’t know.”

“I think you’re just playing dumb!” Old Mr. Johnson did not give her a chance to play dumb and directly said, “You know very well that if you want to stabilize your position in a short period of time, you can only do it through a marriage alliance!”

It wasn’t just Old Mr. Johnson, but everyone in the Johnson family looked down on this way.

But with Tom’s example, they realized that something had to be done.

“Rae-Rae, there are only zero times and countless times in this world. Since there’s this time, there will be a next time. As the saying goes, a person in a high position is liable to be attacked. As the richest family in Seaxas, there are many eyes on our Johnson family in the dark. Tom has been in trouble this time, and I’m sure you have got something from the attitude of others, right?”

Hearing this, Rachel stopped talking.

Whether it was the sudden freezing of funds by the bank or the other relevant departments ordering the project to stop work under the pretext of an investigation, all of those were the hit Tom suffered when he was in trouble.

However, Rachel knew very well what a marriage alliance would mean.

“Isn’t it just a marriage alliance? I’ll do it!” Lucas’s voice sounded from behind.

Old Mr. Johnson and Rachel looked up and saw Lucas walking in wearing a white shirt.

The collar of his shirt was slightly open, revealing the outline of his collarbone. With one hand in his pocket, he walked in casually and briskly. Then, he sat beside Rachel. “As a member of the Johnson family and your biological grandson, let me bear the burden of this. It’s a way for me to repay the Johnson family raised me.”

“What do you know!” Old Mr. Johnson glared at him. “I’m making plans. for Rae-Rae. It’s none of your business!”

“How is it none of my business?” Lucas sat lazily on the sofa. He glanced

at Old Mr. Johnson and said, “It’s fine that you’re partial to her in normal times, but why are you still thinking of her first now when it comes to the marriage union? It’s not fair! Do you really think I’m useless in your heart?”

As he spoke, he glanced at the watch on his wrist. “I was wondering what time it was. Why don’t you go to the office?”
