Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David) novel Chapter 851

Chapter 851

Panic flashed across Hans Grey’s eyes.

He bumped into Lucas Johnson when he was chased out of Johnson Corporation.

Lucas warned him rudely that if he dared to appear before Rachel Grey again, the Grey family would suffer the fate of bankruptcy.

His warning was like a nightmare that would not go away and kept haunting Hans at all times.

True to human nature, no one learned their lesson, especially when they did not have to pay the price.

Hans was confident the Johnson family would not dare to hurt him because he was Rache’s father. Otherwise, Rachel would have to bear the blame of a heartless daughter who did not care about her father’s wellbeing.

He was equally confident that today’s plan was foolproof. Rachel would no doubt cave in and submit to him obediently.

However, he underestimated his daughter’s heartless indifference and overestimated his own ability.

In the past ten years or more, Rachel had grown up o be an independent woman; she was no longer the child Hans could scold and abuse at will. Moreover, she did not care about their father-daughter relationship or give a damn about him.

Han had always thought everything was under his control, but he did not realize it ended when Rachel left the family.

“Hans Grey, do you think the Johnson family won’t dare to do anything to you just because you are Rae-Rae’s father?” Lucas asked nonchalantly, not knowing that it was Hans’s assumption.

A fleeting panic flashed across Hans’s eyes.

Lucas took a puff of his cigarette and slowly exhaled a grayish-white smoke. The corners of his mouth curled into an arc with a hint of wickedness. “Get it straight! The Grey family has secured a sound foothold in Pollister all these years because of my aunt and not because the Johnson family fears you.”

He held the cigarette between his fingers indifferently and looked at Hans in disdain. The Johnson family is not afraid of being labeled heartless.”

Lucas’s casual comment was the last straw that crushed Hans’s back.

He was fearless before Lucas and Rachel because he believed the Johnson family, the wealthiest family in Seaxas, cared about its reputation. Therefore, falling out with Hans Grey would risk being labeled heartless and unjust.

But Lucas’s remark had proved him wrong; it was not what he thought.

“The despicable things that you did to my aunt back then, the Grey family would have vanished from Pollister if she did not plead for my grandfather for leniency. Lucas walked toward Hans with one hand in his pocket and the other holding a cigarette. Then he pressed it against Hans’s chest to extinguish the cigarette bit by bit.

The hot cigarette butt pierced through Hans’s shirt and against his flesh.

Hans’s brows knotted slightly because of the burning pain. He gritted his teeth in silence and endured it nonetheless.

Lucas fixed his icy gaze on Hans’s face as he narrowed his eyes. His voice was low and deep with a hint of hostility. “Hans Grey, don’t take my warning lightly. You’ll be chased out of Pollister if it happens again.”

Then he turned around and left.

Lucas’s family did not bid Sophia Johnson farewell before she passed away. They merely received a letter from her out of the blue one day.

Sophia begged her grandfather for forgiveness for her stubbornness and hoped he could take Rachel back as part of the family. Her soul would then rest in peace. She also requested as her last wish that no harm be done to the Grey family.

After reading her letter, Sophia’s grandfather was so furious that he could not eat for a few days. He tore the letter into pieces out of anger.

Sophia’s father, Tom Johnson, investigated the Grey family and learned Hans had brought his mistress into the family shortly after Sophia’s demise. Hans betrayed his late wife and made his mistress pregnant as well. Moreover, he even tried to ask for forgiveness with a letter before Sophia passed away. His act infuriated the Johnson family.

Even if Hans had fallen for a third party, he could not be so muddle-headed to the point beyond redemption.

However, the Johnson family honored Sophia’s request and did not lay a finger on Hans all these years.

But Hans’s actions today had undoubtedly crossed the Johnson family’s bottom line.

Lucas vowed to uproot the Grey family from Pollister if the same thing happened again; he would disregard his late aunt’s plea altogether.

Hans stood rooted to the spot and covered the wound on his chest. He stared at Lucas sinisterly as the latter walked away. “Aren’t you curious why your aunt had insisted on protecting the Grey family?” he muttered.

Lucas paused when he heard what the latter said. He slowly turned to look at Hans expressionlessly.

“That’s because your aunt let me down first!” Hans took a deep breath and said, with an arrogant smile. “Your aunt made a deal with me before she died. Why don’t we make a deal too? I’m not greedy; I just want to keep what I have. Naturally, Rachel is part of the equation”

Honestly, he did not expect the Johnson family to value Rachel so much.

However, the more the Johnson family protected Rachel, the faster Hans could achieve his goal.

Lucas’s lips curled up slightly, and his eyes were filled with hostility. “Are you threatening me?”

“No, no, no!” Hans took out a cigarette from his pocket and lit it. He took a quick drag and slowly exhaled the grayish-white smoke. I just want to see how much the Johnson family is willing to sacrifice for Rachel Grey,” he said knowingly.

More than that, he wanted to find out the Johnson family’s bottom line.

He speculated that Rachel must be hiding a big secret. Otherwise, Sophia would not have been so compromising back then.

Lucas stared at Hans briefly before lifting his chin and said, “Follow me.”

“What are you doing?!” Hans asked vigilantly as if he had sensed that Lucas was plotting against him.
