Chapter 42
TITUS
As I entered my office, I spotted Scott immersed in reading books borrowed from the palace library. The weight of the curse bore down heavily on me, and before I could even fully close the door, my strength gave out and I collapsed.
“Your Majesty!” Scott’s alarmed voice rang out as he swiftly moved to lift me from the floor. “Please, wait here. I’ll fetch the doctor immediately,” he urged, his brow furrowed with worry as he laid me down on the couch.
I grasped his hand urgently, stopping him in his tracks. “No, not the doctor,” I managed to insist, feeling the strain in every word as Scott helped me settle onto the couch.
“Call for the elder,” I instructed firmly, my breaths coming in labored gasps. The pain in my chest throbbed with each heartbeat, a stark reminder of the curse that bound me to this immortal existence.
Scott hesitated briefly, torn between obeying my command and his instinct to summon immediate medical aid. His brow furrowed in concern as he stood by my side, weighing the urgency of my request against the practical need for medical attention.
“But, Your Majesty, the doctor-” Scott began, his voice laced with worry.
“The elders,” I interjected firmly, my urgency palpable as I struggled to regulate my breathing. “It’s breaking loose, and we have to do something.”
Scott nodded reluctantly, understanding the gravity of the situation. He hurriedly reached for his communicator and spoke into it with a sense of urgency that matched my own. “This is Beta Scott. Summon Elder Marcus to His Majesty’s office immediately. It’s urgent.”
Within moments, footsteps echoed down the corridor as Elder Marcus, a few among those who knew about the curse, arrived at the door.
“What seems to be the trouble, Your Majesty?” Elder Marcus inquired, his voice steady and filled with the weight of centuries of experience.
I managed a strained smile, grateful for his arrival. “It’s the curse,” I explained, my voice betraying the pain that gripped my chest. “It’s worsening. You need to make a more potent spell to keep it inside me, Marcus. I need to know if there’s anything we can do.”
Elder Marcus approached, his eyes narrowing as he examined me with a knowing gaze. “Let me see,” he said softly, placing his hands over my chest and closing his eyes in deep concentration. Minutes passed in silence, each one feeling like an eternity as I awaited his assessment.
Minutes had passed before he eventually broke the silence. “I’ll ask the mages to prepare another set of potions, Your Majesty,” he said. “For the mean time, please take some rest. Your body has to be strong for you to be able to hold it inside you for much longer.”

“Why is this happening? For thousands of years, we managed to keep it inside without any problems. Why has it suddenly become stronger? I can feel it; he’s cating my power inside.”
Minutes passed before he eventually broke the silence. I’ll ask the mages to prepare another set of potions, Your Majesty,” he said softly. “In the meantime, please rest. Your body needs to be strong to contain it for much longer.”
“Why is this happening? For thousands of years, we managed to contain it without any issue. Why has it suddenly grown stronger? I can feel it consuming my power,” I lamented, my voice strained in pain.
Marcus remained silent for a few moments before finally speaking. “Have you been involved in an essence exchange?” he inquired carefully.
I scoffed despite the ache in my chest. “You mean if I’ve been intimate? I am newly wedded. Of course I have,” I replied. “But what does my personal life have to do with this?”
“It appears the malevolence inside you has been drawing power from a source. It’s the only explanation for why your body is weakening and struggling to restrain the Leviathan from breaching into our world.”
“Marcus, I’ve been intimate since I first learned about it. Yet this is the first time this has happened.”
“Then perhaps it’s not about the act itself, but rather the person you are sharing it with,” he murmured cryptically, his words pregnant with meaning she struggled to grasp.
I scoff, “That doesn’t make sense at all.”
Marcus blew a loud sigh. “We can’t be too sure, Your Majesty. To be better prepared, I will humbly request that Your Majesty refrain from engaging in any form of essence exchange. We can’t afford for the leviathan to become stronger than it already is,” he said before leaving the room to prepare the potion.
Scott remained silent as he watched me intently. I can sense that he wanted to say something, but he hesitated.
“What is it, Scott? Spit it out,” I ordered.
“Do you think Lady Sage has something to do with this?” He ventured, only to quickly fall silent when I shot him a withering glare. But his determination was evident; he couldn’t hold back what was on his mind.
“This all started as soon as you marked her and claimed her,” he continued, his voice steady despite my icy stare. “Shouldn’t we consider the possibility that Alpha Gordon sent Sage as a means to ensnare you in a deadly trap?”
“That’s enough! I don’t want to hear about this nonsense ever again.” I shouted, my voice reverberating through every corner of the room.
Despite my outburst, Scott’s words gnawed at the edges of my thoughts. I wanted to deny it, but what he said made a troubling kind of sense. I had marked her, and she had marked me. Despite not being true mates, we should have formed a bond by now, but we hadn’t. And then there was the fact that she had her wolf but bore no scent.

Chapter 42
For thousands of years I had walked this earth without a mate, enduring the solitude that came with such a fate. This was the first time I truly hoped someone could be my mate. The attraction and longing I felt whenever I was around her were undeniable, almost overwhelming. Yet, the wolf inside me remained silent, offering no confirmation of the bond.
The conclusion was inescapable and bitter. She wasn’t my mate. My heart ached at the realization, and doubt began to creep in. Had I been deceived? Was she part of a plot to destroy me? The thought was unbearable, but I couldn’t ignore the possibility.
Scott, ever-perceptive, watched me with concern. “Your Majesty, I know this is difficult, but we must consider every possibility. Your safety and the safety of the kingdom depend on it.”
I took a deep breath, trying to steady my tumultuous emotions. “We will investigate,” I finally said, my voice softer but more resolute. “But until we have proof, I will not condemn her. We will proceed with caution and seek the truth. Only then will we act.
Scott nodded, his expression a mix of relief and determination. “As you wish, Your Majesty, We will find the answers.”
As he left the room, I was left alone with my thoughts, the weight of the situation pressing down on me. The path ahead was fraught with uncertainty, but I knew one thing for sure: I would uncover the truth, no matter the cost. For my kingdom, for myself, and for the hope that, somehow, I had not been betrayed by the one I had come to care for so deeply.

Comments
The readers' comments on the novel: Betrayed by an Alpha claimed by a Lycan King (Sage and Titus)
Is it finished?...
...i mean...you had the perfect ending...why keep going?? ugh...i feel like author is going to continue with twists and turns [-_-]...
Don't mean to be rude but half the chapters are missing. As in your only publishing Half the chapter. Not all of it...
Would love more chapters...
ok just as a recap because i'm getting confused with this plot: sage (the daughter of the ex-alpha who was killed for betraying his pack) is contracted to marry the lycan king bc the present alpha doesn't want to give his own daughter to the king. sage sleeps with someone before the wedding (turns out to be the king). there's a caper at the palace where the king doesn't let her look at him bc he wants to keep her guessing for some reason but eventually she finds out that man she slept with is her husband now. there are other concubines and a queen but for some reason titus still doesn't have an heir despite being like thousands of years old. there is a prophecy that a red wolf will destroy the evil inside the king and when it comes to pass titus looks like he dies. sage runs away (she is the red wolf) bc shes scared of being called a killer. when she comes back titus has been manipulated to believe her "sister" is his mate. there's an intermission where sage runs away with her handmaiden to new york and they start a life for themselves. until titus buys out the company bc he's filthy rich and drags her back. the sister gets punished and jailed to be killed, but sage's intervention (due to her previous feelings for the brother) prevents her death. there's a point when the royal elders storm the castle and titus is jailed and almost at the point of death. taking the beta and her handmaiden they rescue titus and restore him to health. while sage was in new york, titus had somehow found his dead wife again (anna?) and she's very childlike and annoying. all the times sage saves titus doesn't matter because he's been deposed as king and brainwashed by his dead wife to believe she's everything to him. titus dissolves the bond between he and sage (bc of pressure from previous wife) but still has feelings for her and still sleeps with her while trying to reclaim his throne by making alliances with other werewolf packs. a bounty hunter offers his help but demands sage as the price. titus says no, but sage goes behind his back anyway and makes the deal. thinking titus is blinded by sage's presence that prevents him from forming alliance with a pack and having that alpha's daughter as his queen, she runs way with the bounty hunter and he puts her up for sale (she's an idiot for doing this). finding out she's pregnant with an accelerated pregnancy (due to blood moon sex?) she runs away from the auction house and is rescued by a couple who never had kids miles away from where she ran away. 3 years or so pass and she is happy with her chosen family until the bounty hunter finds her again and she goes with him to keep him away from her kids only to be rescued by titus at the auction house. he also finds her kids (bc they obvy would run away to find her) but she for some reason convinces them to lie and say they're not her kids. reunited again, they come across rogue wolves who hurt titus, but they somehow all fit into the helicopter that comes at the right time to save them all. titus while being gravely ill still saves sage from being sentenced to death, but now her kids are in danger....
ok now im reinvested! I hope the kids will be ok! titus now would be a good time to wake up!...
If possible, kindly change the title of the book too because Sage is suppose to be happy with Titus but this back and forth is making the book boring...
Please this has to stop , Titus is suppose to be her savior but she's going through too much...
This book really started good. And for whatever reason, the author keeps on adding boring and nonsensical twist to the story. I'm just skipping through chapters and story still the same.repeating issues and conflict and convo. So tiring. I'm just checking in hoping I can read the ending. Lolz...
We need an end soon. It getting boting and is so boring. Also people is missing. Were is her former maid and scott used to be her friend now he treat her like a stranger...
