"Don’t run! Stay and fight!" Cassandra yelled, angered at the sight of her peers running away.
They dropped like flies, but Cassandra still thought they should push on. They weren’t too far off from the main house where Selene was inside.
Cassandra didn’t know what came over her, but her hatred for Selene came back, and all she wanted was to kill Selene. Then, she wanted to find Gabriel and kill him.
Cassandra gritted her teeth, annoyed that she had to run away as well since she was now outnumbered thanks to her peers leaving.
She was right that Phillip was sending them all to die since there wasn’t enough holy weapons or water for all of them to use. They had managed to injure a few of the guards, but there were still plenty of guards coming.
’That bastard,’ Cassandra thought as she ran away.
Phillip had seriously underestimated how many guards Xavier had to protect his home.
Had no one been spying on the Blackthorn estate to know what they were going to be up against?
Cassandra caught up to her peers, who fled and ran past them. She didn’t know what had happened to her after Phillip drew the mark on her hand since she had woken up feeling fine at first, but there was something off.
Cassandra looked back to see how many of her friends were alive. They didn’t deserve this, but this should open their eyes to what she felt about Phillip.
Phillip didn’t care about them. He sent them here to die after claiming they would be protected by some kind of power.
Cassandra should have known the group Phillip sent her with wouldn’t survive, but in that moment, she couldn’t argue with him. She was willing to speak out about it, but her body was reluctant.
It felt like she had lost a little bit of control of herself.
’No,’ Cassandra panicked.
The screams of her peers filled her ears as the guards continued to chase them even after they were off the estate.
Cassandra looked back once more, seeing that there were only five of them left from a group of fifty. She wanted to go back to help everyone since she cared for them, but knowing she would not succeed, Cassandra kept on running.
All she needed to be was faster than the ones behind her, and at some point, she hoped the guards would retreat to go back protecting the estate, since she was of no danger to them if she was running away.
"Cassandra!"
Cassandra ignored the calls of her friends who needed help. They needed to forgive her for this. Someone needed to survive to get to Phillip to kill him for everything he did tonight.
Cassandra was puzzled when she didn’t hear anyone following her anymore, and upon looking back again, she saw that all her friends were dead and the guards had stopped following her.
She was relieved for a moment until her feet suddenly stopped moving, and she stood still.
"What is happening?" Cassandra wondered, her eyes darting around as she panicked even more. What was happening to her?
"I see why you were flying back so fast," Orlork said, his feet settling on the ground. He fixed his shirt so he wouldn’t have a messy appearance. "Another demon?"
