Caroline went home after submitting the documents. She was surprised to see that Kirk wasn’t 

home. However, she wasn’t concerned in the slightest. 

Although Kirk had resigned from his job, he still had his own social life. It was normal for him to 

be away from home occasionally. 

Since Kirk wasn’t home, she could take this chance to buy groceries and cook him a big meal. Due 

to Jude’s death, Caroline hadn’t cooked for Kirk for a long time. 

Hence, she went to the farmer’s market to buy groceries. When she returned home, Kirk still 

wasn’t home. So she went to the kitchen to cook dinner. 

When Caroline was almost done cooking, she heard noises outside the door. She stood at the door, 

smiling, waiting for Kirk to enter. However, when she saw a rather disgruntled Kirk, her 

expression froze. 

Kirk hadn’t expected to see Caroline at home, and he quickly hid his anger. “What are you doing 

home?” 

Caroline replied, “I came home after getting off work. What happened to you? Did you get into a 

fight?” 

“No, I just practiced boxing with Jack.” 

Caroline was skeptical, but she didn’t ask any more questions. Instead, she turned toward the 

dining room and said, “You must be hungry. Let’s have dinner.” 

Kirk followed Caroline to the dining room. When he saw the sumptuous meal on the table, he 

kissed her forehead tenderly. “Thank you, darling.”
