Boss,I'm Not Your Stand-in Gilrfriend novel Chapter 8

On the other end of the phone, my mother could not explain the situation clearly. She just said that something bad had happened at her father's construction site and they needed a lot of money.

When I received this news, my mind seemed to stop working, but my body moved in an orderly fashion. I immediately bought tickets, went home and comforted my mother. After all these things were arranged and done, I had a little time to think.

What should I do in the future, I thought as I sat on the late night train looking out the window. The world was so beautiful, but not for me.

When my father met with an accident, my mother, as the wife of the family, had already lost her backbone. Therefore, the burden of the whole family was on me. It was not until I got home that I learned that someone had been injured at the construction site my father was in charge of. It was not that serious, but the injured person was admitted to the intensive care unit, which would cause a lot of medical expenses.

The most distressing thing was that the owner of the site disappeared overnight. The responsibility then fell on my father.

I was a little upset that my mother did not make it clear over the phone. I was so scared that I did not dare close my eyes, day or night. I said, "As long as Dad is okay, the cost is no big deal. His health is much more important. I'll figure out how to handle the money. You and Dad just have to take good care of yourselves."

Then father said, "What can you do? You are single and just got divorced. How can you take care of us? I didn't want to tell you, but your mother... ah!"

Layne was my college classmate and once liked me passionately, but we did not get along for various reasons. After I married Roger, I cut off contact with him completely. Layne invited me to meet with him. Although I was suspicious, I went to meet him anyway.

As soon as we met, Layne opened the door, handed me a bank card, and said, "Darcey, I know you are in a bad situation. You have been alone since the divorce. Now that you have been through something like this, life is very difficult. I can not give you much. Here is $ 52,000. That's the money I saved behind my wife's back. I took it out to help you."

I was very much puzzled at this point. I had not expected Layne to be so graceful a man. I regretted that I had chosen Roger instead of him. I was really blind."
