Every time Maurice called Marguerite down, she felt a tingle run through her scalp.
Miley leaned close to Marguerite's ear, lowering her voice, "Should I wait for you in your room?"
"Go ahead."
As soon as Miley left, Maurice strode up to Marguerite, his voice thundering down on her.
"If it hadn't been for Penelope's accident, I'd still be in the dark!"
Marguerite stared at him, puzzled, "What are you trying to say?"
"Marguerite, you really took me by surprise! Landing a job at Poppy Petal Fragrances was one thing, but to get Frederick to stoop to your level and join your madness at the company. Ha, you've really made a fool out of me!"
It seemed her collaboration with Frederick had come to his knowledge.
Yet, facing his anger, Marguerite felt it was both absurd and unreasonable!
Made a fool out of him?
As if he had the right!
Marguerite wanted to spit in his face, but after spending the entire day at the police station, and with Penelope's incident, she was just too drained.
She looked at him, smiling wearily.
"The prerequisite for being made a fool out of, is that we'd have to be married or lovers. Which one are we, please?"
"Marguerite, don't push me! You know I've already..."
"You're already preparing for the wedding?"
Marguerite cut off Maurice sharply, her indifferent eyes now filled with disdain.
"There's no need to bring that up now, not when Penelope just had an accident. Bringing up marriage to pressure me now, isn't that a bit heartless?"
Marguerite saw a flash of frustration cross his face.
She knew he was genuinely angry.
Marguerite staggered back, touching Teresa’s face which was painted in a riot of colors, she asked:
"Why aren't you in bed yet?"
Teresa grabbed Marguerite's hand, leading her towards Miley, "I saw Godmom looked upset, so I brought Hayes to cheer her up."
Marguerite looked around but didn’t see Hayes, "Where is Hayes?"
Just then, Hayes crawled out from under the bed, dressed in a tight black suit with a huge web on his back.
The little guy looked uncomfortable, his cheeks flushed with embarrassment, "I'm trying to impersonate Spider-Man... for Godmom."
Marguerite felt a bit dizzy, no need to ask, it was obviously Teresa's idea.
But no matter how hard she looked, she couldn't see Hayes's portrayal resembling Spider-Man, it was more akin to a spider demon.
She struggled to keep from laughing out loud, Teresa quickly tugged at her dress, asking:
"Mommy, what's really wrong with Godmom? Hayes and I tried everything from making funny faces to dancing, but she just won't laugh!"
