Ben nodded. “Got it. Please contact him as soon as you can.”
“Sure.”
After Nash agreed, he hung up and immediately called Nina. He was at work when he made the call.
Nina answered with a chuckle. “Didn’t I tell you to focus on work when you’re busy? There’s no need to worry about things at home, right?”
With a postpartum caregiver at home, there wasn’t much for Nash to handle himself.
He laughed along. “I know, I know, and I haven’t forgotten. But I’m calling because Ben reached out to me. Can you talk to Wilfred? It’s about his first love’s child. The child is seriously ill and needs treatment.”
“Got it. I’ll reach out to him right away,” Nina replied.
Helping out friends whenever possible just came naturally.
Nina explained the situation to Wilfred, who immediately agreed. “I don’t have time today, but tomorrow, you can bring me over to see him.”
Wilfred was thrilled that Nina had called, even if it was on someone else’s behalf. For him, any chance to talk to her was a gift.
He knew Nina’s heart belonged entirely to Nash. Even though he had no hope of being with her, staying close and seeing her from time to time was enough to bring him joy.
To avoid disturbing Nash at work, Nina sent him a message. “Wilfred said he’s unavailable today, but tomorrow, you can take him to see Ben.”
“Got it.” Nash didn’t hesitate and immediately forwarded a screenshot of the conversation to Ben.
Ben, overjoyed, couldn’t wait to share the news with Jamie. “Jamie, our child can be saved!”
Instead of relief, Jamie felt a deep discomfort that money and connections seemed to be able to fix everything.
Jamie lowered her head, pulling her hand away. “I can’t ignore certain things. If I choose happiness for myself, what about Winnie? I’ve lived without you for four years, and I’ve learned to manage just fine.”
Winnie had feelings for Ben too. Even though the child she carried wasn’t his, she had once genuinely dreamed of spending her life with him.
But now, the truth was out. Her child wasn’t Ben’s, and his relationship with Winnie had only been a means of revenge against Jamie.
It wasn’t just Winnie who struggled to accept this, even Jamie found it hard to reconcile.
Above all, Winnie was her younger sister. Jamie couldn’t put her own happiness above her sister’s.
Ben could see Jamie’s hesitation. “I told you that I’ll make everything clear. But if you want Charlie to stay with me, have you even asked him if that’s what he wants?”
Charlie had always been by Jamie’s side, and Ben was painfully aware of how poorly he had treated her in the past.
