Whatever Nash said now, Nina felt it was abnormal. She added, "There's no space here for your things."
Nash looked around and immediately opened the closet door, finding a small space inside. He said, "There's room here, I don't mind!" He then commanded, "Quincy!"
"Yes!"
Quincy promptly hung up the clothes.
Their movements were swift, as if hesitating for a second would mean losing the spot to someone else.
Nina suddenly felt that their relationship had changed, yet remained the same. She hadn't divorced, nor had she severed ties with Nash. On the contrary, he seemed to be infiltrating her life more forcefully.
Soon, Quincy finished organizing and left.
Seeing Nina silent, Nash asked again, "You didn't eat anything just now. Are you hungry? Would you like something to eat?"
Nina was already full of frustration and couldn't eat anything. "I'm not hungry."
"Even if you're not hungry, the baby in your belly needs to eat," Nash said, aware that she was upset.
Nina touched her stomach, feeling a bit reassured. She said, "When I'm hungry, I can cook for myself. It's just that there's nothing here for you to eat..."
"I'll cook for you," Nash interrupted.
Nina was taken aback, then watched as Nash rolled up his sleeves and headed out.
Quincy had already bought the groceries.
Nina watched him bring them in, seeing several vegetables and a chicken. She didn't know what he was planning to cook.
She saw him cooking soup, with his phone playing a cooking tutorial video beside him. The soup was boiling, and Nash reached for the lid. She instinctively wanted to stop him, but before she could say anything, it was too late.
The lid was scalding hot. Nash, lacking experience, burned his hand badly.
Perhaps he didn't want Nina to notice, so he carefully set it down before lifting his hand. Nina noticed his reddened, burned hand.
Yet, he ignored it and carried on following the recipe from the video. From where she stood, she could see the title: "Pregnancy Recipes."
Nina didn't know how to feel at the moment. Clearly, she had resolved to distance herself from him, yet he always appeared in front of her inadvertently, doing things that made her feel uneasy.
If only she had a stronger heart. Perhaps then, things wouldn't have turned out like this. But she had always been like this, appearing indifferent on the surface but actually quite soft-hearted.
She couldn't stand this anymore.
