Hearing this, Miranda's expression stiffened slightly, but she firmly retorted, "No, I can’t do that. I'm Miranda, a big star now. How could I stoop to doing such things?"
"Miranda..." Wilfred repeated the name softly, then suddenly smiled. "That name isn't clean either. You’re dwelling in the darkness but dreaming of seeing the light, hmm?"
He asked, tapping his slender fingers on the table.
They were both people from the underworld and neither could claim purity.
Miranda's face turned pale, and her hands clenched tightly. "It's all in the past. We can be clean now!"
She longed to believe she could be clean. No one knew about the things she had done before. Although her hands were dirty, she had washed them clean.
Wilfred remained silent.
Miranda looked at him earnestly, "I want a normal life. I have a career, and I will have a family. You can have that too. You can live a normal life."
Wilfred gazed into Miranda's eyes. He believed that, at this moment, she was sincere.
But...
He smiled and said unhurriedly, "It’s not over yet."
Miranda froze.
"They will come back."
Her body went limp again. "Can't I ever escape them?"
"There is one way."
Miranda looked up. "What way?"
"Death." Wilfred's eyes were calm, but there was a hint of melancholy in his voice.
Only death could free them.
That was their fate.
A fate sealed from birth.
Those in darkness could never see the light.
"Is it Nina?" Miranda immediately stood up, her face changing color. "What should I do?"
The public opinion out there was overwhelming. She knew Nina was definitely acting on behalf of Zoe. Most likely, Nina had hired someone to follow her, trying to uncover the reason for her hearing loss.
She had intentionally created a huge public scandal to burden Zoe. Zoe had been unfriendly to her and had even hit her. This was her way of getting revenge but she could not let Nina find out.
Wilfred pointed with his hands in his pockets, "There's a back door."
Miranda hurried towards the direction he indicated but then stopped and looked back at Wilfred. "She came knocking on our door herself. This is a great opportunity. You know she's a stumbling block, not only hindering me but also threatening your life. Why not take this chance to get rid of her?"
Wilfred’s gaze remained fixed on the window as he replied, "I know what to do."
A smile curled on Miranda’s lips. She hoped Wilfred would follow her advice and eliminate Nina.
With Nina out of the way, her life would be much easier.
The biggest obstacle now was Nina!
After Miranda left, Wilfred slowly went to open the door.
