Chasing The Rejected Luna's Heart (Clara and Liam) novel Chapter 167

~DELILAH~

Those few hours were probably the worst moment in my life. We were all seated at the waiting area while we watched as the nurses ran back and forth with bandages soaked with blood.

“How’s my son and daughter in law?! How's my grandchild?!” My mother tried asking but all the doctor could tell her was that they couldn't determine their conditions and the more she wasted their time, the more at risk Damon and Clara were.

That pretty much stopped my mother but they didn't calm her. As a matter of fact, that didn't calm any of us.

“It’s okay, Damon and Clara are strong” Luca murmured as he pulled me into his hold and in that moment, I let the tears flowed down my cheeks freely.

“Damon wasn't breathing, Luca. He… and Clara, she…”

“It’s okay, take a deep breath. They'll get through this, they have to” He murmured the last sentence mainly to himself.

We had defeated Sebastian and his allies but yet, it felt like we had lost. I couldn't even begin to phantom how much pain Damon had been put through and the fact that I wasn't able to do a thing to help them kills me and I know it kills everyone else especially Luca.

Luca suggested we go get drinks for everyone since no one has eaten or drank anything since the fight started and because waiting like this gave me anxiety, I followed him.

“Seat here” He murmured as we got to the vending machine. He made me sit down then placed a kiss on my cheek before going towards the vending machine.

I just sat there, watching him with different things running through my mind.

Dimitri had run off after seeing the state of Damon and Clara. He was beating himself up for knowing he had done nothing to help, none of us had.

“It’s not your fault you know? I know you're blaming yourself for not being there for Damon but there was nothing you could do. You had to fight for the people…”

“I could have also fought for him, for Clara. I promised him that I wasn't going to let anything happen to Clara and yet… when the time came, I couldn't even protect her” He replied and I frowned.

“We had to fight off the enemies and…”

“Let’s not talk about this please?” He murmured and I pursed my lips then nodded.

I knew that Luca and Dimitri were blaming themselves the most. Dimitri hadn't shown up until later with Clara's uncle. He had tried running towards Damon immediately but was immediately attacked by the enemy while Luca, Luca had tried everything to get to them but the enemy knew he was one of the strongest fighters there and thus, they attacked him the most. Not to mention that he was also trying to protect me.

“Here, drink this” He murmured as he handed me an energy drink. I thanked him as he sat beside me and we drank our drinks in silence.
