"How come the wedding procession hasn’t arrived yet?"
Jessica pretended to be wondering and looked out of the gate as she saw Aminah Stewart, her stepmother, mincing over to her.
The guests looked at Jessica in astonishment. Judging from her reaction, they assumed that she didn’t know whom she was going to marry. Hadn’t Aminah talked with her over it before?
"Well… the Fletcher family is a powerful family, and they must have a lot of rules to follow. You’ll go straight to the Fletcher family in that car parked out of the gate."
Having hung out with people in high society for years, Aminah had naturally become very ingenious when it comes to finding excuses. After all, she had used to be an escort.
Guests were whispering to one another. Apparently, Jessica’s newly-wed stepmother was giving a hard time to the lady of the Armstrong family. Truly, Aminah was a stunning and gorgeous woman, but she was mean as a snake.
As a woman who cared so much about her pride, Aminah changed the topic immediately and urged Jessica to get into the car as soon as possible so that she wouldn’t be late. On the surface, it seemed that Aminah didn’t want Jessica to leave, but actually, she swore secretly that she would make things hard for Jessica in the future.
Jessica got into the wedding car and was sent to a private estate.
"Please don’t go to the top floor without Mr. Fletcher’s permission. Please keep that in mind."
Travis Thomas, Lorenzo’s butler, took Jessica straight to the guest room and stared seriously at her, saying in a reverent manner.
It was when Travis disappeared at the end of the corridor that Jessica heaved a sigh of relief. Then she threw herself on the cozy bed and fell asleep very soon.
'Don’t waste time and leave the Armstrong family as soon as possible. Take good care of yourself. Mom will become a star and look at you from above…'
"Mom! No!"
Jessica sprang up in bed and wiped the sweat off her face, her heart racing.
The image of her mother before dying lingered in Jessica’s mind and kept her from falling asleep again. But the view of the garden out of the window was so gorgeous, and she might as well take a walk outside.
As soon as she got out of the room, a roar made her stop and then came a great crash.
The next moment, a breeze came from behind and sent a shiver down her spine.
Jessica regretted not having followed Travis’ advice. She shouldn’t have explored the top floor but contained her curiosity, but she kept walking up to the top floor regardless, as if she was possessed by the devil.
Jessica was so nervous that she was able to hear her heart pounding. She plucked at her sleeve discreetly, and a few special silver needles slipped down to her cuff, ready for her to use.
Jessica mustered up all her courage, reached out and flung the door open. The room was in total darkness. The huge floor-to-ceiling window was open, and the curtains were fluttering in the night breeze like a dancing ghost.
Jessica took a deep breath and trod lightly into the room, her eyes wary.
However, hardly had she taken a few steps than someone yanked her back from behind, and her mouth was covered with a big hand the moment she was about to scream.
For a moment, her mind went blank, but when she came to her senses, she finally saw clearly that the room was in a total mess.
Jessica struggled hard instinctively, but she was too weak to wrench herself free. Right before she stamped her foot, a fit of dizziness came over her, and the next moment, she was trapped in the corner.
Jessica forced herself to calm down. She was pinned down in an instant in the forbidden area, so obviously, it must be a man.
However, her new husband was terminally ill, so it couldn’t be him.
Judging from his power and speed, the man must persist in strength training all the year round.
"How dare you! Let go of me!" Jessica plucked up her courage and snarled, trying her best to break free from the strange man.
"You’re the one who’s wriggling in my arms in a sheer nightgown in the middle of the night. What? You can’t wait to consummate the marriage?"
His warm breath was tickling her ear. There was a hint of seduction and playfulness in his deep and mellow voice.
"What a nerve!" Jessica could feel that her cheeks were burning.
The man who sneaked up on her from behind must be her new husband that she had never met before, because no man had the guts to do that do her in the Fletcher residence openly.
Besides, he wasn’t terminally ill at all. He was much stronger than ordinary people.
