Contract Marriage: My Sweet Bossy Wife novel Chapter 31

Though the wealth the Jenkins family possessed had gone far beyond average, it still failed to reach even a mere proportion of that of the Armstrong family.

Matilda had been growing more craze about material privilege as she had been a friend of Juliette since childhood.

When Juliette was in a good mood, she would like to offer Matilda something she no longer fancied or something she ever deserted.

Though Matilda only received used stuff, the value of them still went beyond what she could afford. Only when she stayed with Juliette, she could taste the joy of living like a rich lady among the upper class.

So Matilda had been fawning on Juliette just because she was longing for privilege. Actually, she despised Juliette from the bottom of her heart, whom she deemed ignorant though with dazzling appearance.

“Preston, what brought you here?” Matilda hurried over with excitement when seeing him.

“Where is Jessica?”

Preston looked around but only to find Matilda here alone. So he uttered to ask.

Matilda had a long crush on Preston, but she hadn’t been courageous enough to confess in case she incurred the envy from Juliette. So she had to keep it like a secret. But now she felt like flexing her sense of crush as she noticed there was no one else around.

“Jessica asked Juliette out for a talk. Perhaps it will take quite a while before she returns.”

Matilda felt like stammering while facing her prince charming. Her heart started to run wild.

“Come on in, have a seat. You don’t’ need to stand still to wait for her.” Matilda suggested with a blushed face. She nudged a bit to spare some space for Preston to enter.

“Okay.”

As always, Preston showed no interest looking at her. Not to mention a talk with her. He walked in and sat down on the couch.

“Do you want a glass of wine? The vintage has just been airlifted. Would you like to try some?” worrying that Preston might leave first out of impatience, Matilda filled a glass with wine, trying to make him stay for a bit longer.

She passed him the glass of wine. However, she felt like being struck by drunkenness. Driven by intoxication, she took the chance to lean into his arms.

Juliette started to grow impatience because of walking on high heels for a long distance. Seeing Jessica still walking forward, she grabbed her arm to question, “Where are you taking me to for a talk?”

“I wanna touch up my foundation in the bathroom. But I feel bored if I walk such a distance alone. So I want you to walk me there. Whatever. You didn’t seem busy.” Jessica turned to smile wryly at her to reply.

“Are you kidding me?” Juliette was irritated. She turned around to leave.

“I bet you will see something interesting when you return to the room.” Jessica smirked to murmur as Juliette had walked a distance away.

“Matilda, did you…” Juliette walked to the door and pushed it open. But before she finished her words, she saw something that could set her on burning anger—Matilda was leaning on Preston with her arms wrapping around his body. Her eyes were filled with infatuation.

Hearing the voice from Juliette, Matilda, still wearing an intoxicating look, couldn’t help shivering out of panic. Her face turned pale. She hurried to tidy up her disheveled top.

But Preston still looked composed as if nothing had happened. The same thing always happened to him again and again. He had been used to it. From his perspective, it was just a common game for him to kill time.

“Where is Jessica?” Preston walked over to Juliette to ask as he was still concerning about Jessica.

“Jessica? Always Jessica! She is touching up her makeup in the bathroom.” Though confused and annoyed, Juliette still held back her tantrum and forced out a smile in front of her prince charming.

“I just need a business talk with her.”
