"When... how... how did that happen?"
Damien didn't expect Allison to be so stunned too. Since she knew about Claire's crush on him, and hid it, should she be so stunned? Did she have the right? Isn't Claire falling for him an unattainable thing?!
Damien looked around to catch the reactions of all the girls. The shock in their faces was almost equivalent to how they felt when the first ballistic missile hit the jet. Who knows, probably those words of his were fiercer than the impact of the missile on their mental state.
He stood up. Claire seemed devasted when she heard him. Damien was enjoying the look on her face. He knew that she wouldn't bring herself to admitting it. And that was exactly what he needed.
"Damien, say something."
Allison stood up too. The girls wanted to hear more.
"According to the rule of the game, a question should be answered without further details. That was exactly what I did."
He paused.
"Enjoy the game."
He turned and left.
"Where do you think you're going! You fucking bitch! Come back here and answer the questions!!"
Claire finally found her voice, but Damien pretended not to hear. He kept on walking towards the gate of the compound.
FOLLOW ME. YOU HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO FOLLOW ME.
That was his plan. To have a time with her alone.
"You crazy dork, stop there!!!"
Claire followed. Lisa called at her,
"Should I come with you?"
"I don't need a handbag today."
She snapped and walked away.
"Isn't that rude of her?"
"Does she ever think before speaking?"
While some were worried about how rude Claire was, the rest argued,
"I can't believe it."
"I know right. Claire of all people? Damien kissed her?"
"How did it happen? I'm dying to know."
"I can't wait to hear the gist."
"Poor Claire."
Everyone of them sneered at Lisa who was the last person to speak. Tendzel nodded at Laurette,
"She really is a handbag."
In the woods, Damien kept walking on as Claire hurried to catch up with him. She cussed tirelessly,
"You douchebag! Wait for me. Stop walking away. Don't you feel a need to take responsibility for what you just said?!"
"You freaking bastard, will you stop walking already?!"
She bumped into a log in the middle of the path and fell. Damien was tempted to stop but he didn't. It seemed like he had somewhere in mind.
