Maja certainly didn't believe it.
But she lacked the energy to argue, and she simply watched as Patric continued to drown his sorrows in glass after glass of bourbon.
She had a strange feeling that Holden's death had also affected him.
But could that be possible? After all, he was the one responsible for Holden's death.
Maja only felt a sting in her eyes. Everything that had happened still felt surreal, like she had been pulled into a massive riddle.
Regardless, Holden had always been good to her.
He was such a formidable figure, yet in his final moments, he was so worn and frail, as if he had suffered immense torment.
It was as if he was haunted by a demon, a demon he could not shake off until his death.
Ian sat alone in Rosewood Mansion, a black and white photo of Holden laid out in front of him.
Rosewood Mansion was a pre-marital gift from Holden to Maja; the people within were also nurtured by Holden.
Now that the news of Holden's death had spread, a blanket of grief shrouded the entire mansion.
Add to that Maja's disappearance, the mansion felt eerily devoid of life.
Only Coco, the dog, would occasionally bark at the front door as if waiting for its owner to return.
Ian leaned back, staring blankly at the ceiling.
His phone wouldn't stop ringing. On this day of Holden's memorial, there were many who wished to get in touch with him, but he didn't answer a single call.
Not until his phone ran out of battery.
He calmly went upstairs, took a shower, and slipped into the bed that still held Maja's scent.
The surroundings were quiet, so quiet that he could occasionally hear the chirping of birds outside.
Ian grabbed a pillow, clutching it tightly.
He hadn't slept in two days, and now he reluctantly drifted off.
But he dreamed of the time when he was oblivious to the fact that Maja was his wife, dreamed of when he expressed his desire for divorce to Holden, only to be subjected to the family's punishment.
Back then, he felt that being entangled by a woman was the worst thing in the world, and he used to despise Holden's judgment.
But how happy he was during those times.
Holden was still alive, and Maja was still his wife.
The scene in his dream shifted. Holden was now lying on a hospital bed, expressing regret for pairing him with Maja.

Is author playing with our emotions?...
Why are there no updates yet, Author. We've all been waitibg for quite a while now. Please, update soon, Author. Thanks....
Author, my thoughts on the book. When are You going to write on Cornelia and Omar Casson's romance? You made no mention, describing in detail how Maja and Uan's white wedding ceremony went. Also, you didn't write on Carol's baby delivery. What about Tyler's romance. Is there closure on Phelps Herrington being truly certified dead, so also his twin brother? Dylan's research institute "little girl", what became of her and Dylan's romance? Beck's blind dates, what were the results, is he married now, so also Dylan to his "little girl"? Why hasn't Ian's father- Steven come forward to meet Maja's parents as the in-laws meeting each other especially with his supposed past with Lillian; Maja's mother. I hope I won't remain curious for too long on the aforementioned issues, Author. Thanks for doing a good job on Zoey and Fitch's romance, though. Kudos....
