Arlene's smile stretched from ear to ear as she chuckled.
"Honey, you're smitten, aren't you? No worries. I'll talk to your dad and we'll figure this out. I'll be there in Greenfield to support you, but I need to wrap up a few things here first."
Judith's eyes sparkled with glee. She always knew she was her mom's favorite.
It was still afternoon where Arlene was. She was having a high tea with a group of socialites. They all wore exquisite makeup and dazzling outfits. Some even had fascinators perched onto their coiffed hair - a nod to traditional European fashion.
One of the ladies set down her cup of coffee and turned to Arlene.
"Mrs. Sanders, any luck in finding your sister?"
Arlene shook her head slowly, "No, not yet. It's been so many years. I fear she might be gone."
"What a pity! She was a genius in the pharmaceutical field. It's baffling how she just vanished. And to think she was supposed to become a Sanders by marrying into the family, only to run away the night before the wedding."
Otherwise, that golden opportunity would never have fallen into Arlene's lap.
Arlene and her twin sister were like two sides of a coin. While her sister was a prodigy in the pharmaceutical research, making a name for herself at a young age, Arlene was more ordinary. She was like the designated bride groomed by the Abbott family to marry into the wealthy family.
The ladies brought up the missing sister with a mixed expression of envy and nostalgia.
Back in the day, there was a long line of suitors for her, but she was solely focused on her research.
It took Augus years of courtship before they got together. But then she disappeared on the eve of their wedding. The guests were already on their way from all four corners of the world. Neither the Sander family nor the Abbott family could afford the scandal, so they decided to have Arlene marry Augus instead.
Everyone thought Augus would protest, but their married life was rather peaceful, and they even had two sons and a daughter.
Ever since then, the Abbott family had been on a decline, to the point where they were almost unknown. If it wasn't for Arlene marrying into the Sanders family, nobody would remember that she was an Abbott.
Arlene didn't like how these ladies always brought up her sister, so she excused herself rather quickly.
When she got back to the Sanders estate, she waited for Augus to return.
It wasn't until 10 PM that Augus finally ended his day's work.
Arlene rushed over to him, taking his coat from his hands.
"Honey, did Judith call you? She wants to marry Ian. Shall we talk to the Raymond family about this engagement?"

Is author playing with our emotions?...
Why are there no updates yet, Author. We've all been waitibg for quite a while now. Please, update soon, Author. Thanks....
Author, my thoughts on the book. When are You going to write on Cornelia and Omar Casson's romance? You made no mention, describing in detail how Maja and Uan's white wedding ceremony went. Also, you didn't write on Carol's baby delivery. What about Tyler's romance. Is there closure on Phelps Herrington being truly certified dead, so also his twin brother? Dylan's research institute "little girl", what became of her and Dylan's romance? Beck's blind dates, what were the results, is he married now, so also Dylan to his "little girl"? Why hasn't Ian's father- Steven come forward to meet Maja's parents as the in-laws meeting each other especially with his supposed past with Lillian; Maja's mother. I hope I won't remain curious for too long on the aforementioned issues, Author. Thanks for doing a good job on Zoey and Fitch's romance, though. Kudos....
