Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja) novel Chapter 1518

Beck watched Maja with a pang of heartache. She had returned from the ordeal at Forbidden Island considerably leaner.

Propped up against her pillow, Maja's relief was palpable now that she knew Ian was safe. She had finally set her worries aside.

Beck let out a sigh. "That island used to be cut off from the world, but the continuous explosions over the last couple of days caught the international community's eye. Several countries have sent teams to investigate, and the place is a wreck. Only a handful of people survived. The hospital there got exposed, too, and it's stirred up a media frenzy. Several countries have filed requests to probe into the owners of the island. The puppet masters behind it are either some shadowy organizations, or..."

He paused, a cold smirk playing at the corners of his mouth, "or the real power behind the island might just be certain nations. Anyway, the media is all over it, hounding the story. Whoever's behind it won't dare make a move any time soon."

Maja nodded, feeling a sudden rush of safety.

She felt secure by Ian's side, but this was the first time she realized how good it was to have family around.

She wasn't too attached to the Sanders family, but Beck, her brother, wasn't half bad.

"Beck, how's Mr. Sanders doing?"

Originally, their venture to Forbidden Island was to find an antidote, but now that the island was in ruins, what would become of Augus?

"He's stable, but we need to find that antidote fast. Maja, this isn't all on you, don't worry. There's bound to be some leads on the island. The Sanders' folks are still searching."

Maja nodded, her gaze falling.

"Beck, the woman locked in the basement."

She frowned, her brow creasing, "The layout down there's like a labyrinth. Maybe she knows how to craft the antidote. Try talking to her. She's our mother."

Beck was silent. He had suspected as much.

The room fell quiet as he rubbed his temples, "I've sent a lot of people down there, but with tens of thousands of wires crisscrossing everywhere, it's designed to keep her in and everyone else out. If we can't figure it out, that place will become her lifelong prison."

Upon finishing, he felt a twinge of discomfort.
