Mia had never felt such a profound sense of despair; Even when she was terrified by Maja's antics, what she felt was just fear. But now, she was engulfed in hopelessness.
She longed to return to the Haskins household, and to her brother's protective embrace.
It was all Zoey's fault. It was because of Zoey that she had fallen prey to this vile man.
The car kept driving, and Mia, in a daze, stared at the headliner, while the greasy man beside her continued his repulsive advances. She wanted to cry, but her tears had long since dried up.
Across town, Zoey stared at the disconnected call.
She didn't look at Fitch's face, knowing it would be a grim sight.
She stood up, making an attempt to leave, only to hear his voice halt her escape, "Did I say you could leave?"
He was always domineering, never wasting words on her.
Zoey's steps froze; the flick of a lighter resonated before the scent of tobacco filled the room.
"Until Mia comes back, you're staying right here."
He stood up, grabbing a tie and his suit jacket, signaling for his men to come in.
As he approached a staircase, his impatience was evident.
"Prepare a room for her and expedite the search. Bring Mia back within the day."
"Yes, sir."
Zoey was escorted into a room on either side.
Fitch's room was upstairs, but her new quarters, clearly a nanny's room, was downstairs. It was modest at about 500 square feet, yet it boasted a private bathroom—a luxury compared to most places she had slept in before.
Zoey sat on the bed, leaning against the wall, and silently prayed for Mia's safety. If anything happened to her, Fitch would surely blame Zoey.
Blame her for being Belinda's daughter.
Blame her for not answering Mia's desperate calls.
Zoey's mind was a mess. Instead of lying down, she remained propped against the wall, trying to rest.
Fitch's men were efficient. By early next morning, they caught up with Belinda's vehicle.
Because neither Belinda nor her man had much education, they thought they could outrun their pursuers, but their ordinary car was no match for a sports car driven by a pro.
Belinda was confused until she was kicked out of her car, she'd been caught.

The readers' comments on the novel: Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja)
Author, would you story about Ryan settling down and another story on Eric regaining his body and memories back from Patrick, and Eric also settling down as I find it so disheartening for him to have gone through what he went through at the research institute, and I'll like for him to get his "golden boy" life back though, not at the detriment of Ian....
When will the author update to finish Beck's story? What about Dylan and Tyler's love lives? Also, I'll like the author to write on Wilma and Elvis ending up together as she was quite persistent in pursuing him. And Shawn's story, Cornelia Sullivan and Omar Casson. Also, a little write-up on Jeff (Ian's assistant) love life, too. Thanks, author for updating....
When will get update?...
What is wrong that the author has not updated this novel in over a month or is there somewhere else that I can continue reading the novel from chapter 1951 upwards? Do tell, please. Thanks....
