Carol returned to her apartment, a smile creeping across her lips at the memory of Felix cooking in the kitchen. It was an image she just couldn't shake.
She knew her friend Maja had been swamped with overtime at the office, so she sent another text to Yolanda.
[Girl, I'm trying not to get too excited, but the man can cook, and he looks like a snack doing it.]
Yolanda's response took its sweet time, arriving ten minutes later.
[Carol, to be honest, I don't see the big deal. He's alright, but the guy can't even ride a motorcycle.]
Carol's lips twitched in amusement, thinking Yolanda only had eyes for bike lovers. She was blissfully happy, even though nothing had happened between her and Felix. Just the thought of him made her heart flutter.
[Another thing, I bet he can't even afford a motorcycle.]
Carol nearly burst out laughing, rubbing her temples. There was no point arguing with Yolanda; the girl was in her own world.
After a refreshing shower, Carol couldn't resist texting Felix.
[Got home, just showered. You asleep?]
Felix saw the message but didn't reply, standing alone on his tiny balcony with a cigarette.
Her message vanished into the void, and Carol reluctantly drifted off to sleep.
She had expected things with Felix to continue at a lukewarm pace, but after a week of delivering groceries to him, an opportunity finally presented itself.
That evening, while still at work, she received a text from Felix.
[Don't bother with the food delivery tonight, not feeling too hot.]
Of course, Carol couldn't just do nothing when he mentioned he was feeling under the weather.
[Got a cold? Fever? Should I bring you some meds?]
[No, just don't come over tonight.]
After that, Felix went silent.
Carol's curiosity was piqued. The more you tell her not to do something, the more she wanted to do it.
So she peppered him with texts, none of which he answered.
She couldn't wait to get off work and check on him. She tried to excuse herself, but the manager, who had taken a dislike to her, sneered.
"Don't tell me you're meeting up with those customers. This is a respectable barbecue place, we don't want any scandal. If we have a scene here, it'll affect all of us."
Just the day before, a drunk patron had confessed to Carol, bringing her a bouquet of roses. The manager was not pleased.
And then there was yesterday, another customer, another bouquet. The manager felt it was affecting business, and maybe she was a tad envious of Carol's youth and charm.
"Don't get ideas above your station, girl. The men coming here for barbecue aren't your princes. A bouquet of flowers is what, twenty bucks? Don't get seduced and end up in bed. If you get knocked up, see who'll have you then."
Carol pretended not to hear, knowing it would be a pain to find a new job, and Felix knew where she worked. She didn't want to go through the hassle of changing places.

Is author playing with our emotions?...
Why are there no updates yet, Author. We've all been waitibg for quite a while now. Please, update soon, Author. Thanks....
Author, my thoughts on the book. When are You going to write on Cornelia and Omar Casson's romance? You made no mention, describing in detail how Maja and Uan's white wedding ceremony went. Also, you didn't write on Carol's baby delivery. What about Tyler's romance. Is there closure on Phelps Herrington being truly certified dead, so also his twin brother? Dylan's research institute "little girl", what became of her and Dylan's romance? Beck's blind dates, what were the results, is he married now, so also Dylan to his "little girl"? Why hasn't Ian's father- Steven come forward to meet Maja's parents as the in-laws meeting each other especially with his supposed past with Lillian; Maja's mother. I hope I won't remain curious for too long on the aforementioned issues, Author. Thanks for doing a good job on Zoey and Fitch's romance, though. Kudos....
