Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja) novel Chapter 1774

He was one of Fitch’s people. He’d shown up because he couldn't reach Fitch; thus he ended up knocking on Maja's door.

"Ms. Pennyfeather, you might not be aware, but when someone in politics screws up, their place of detention is not your run-of-the-mill cell. Bernard's rivals are looking to take him down, so as soon as they got wind that Queena might have been swapped over, they've been on this case like bloodhounds. But the trail led to Mr. Raymond, and the evidence is ironclad. They've found Queena's ashes."

Found them? If Bernard was planning on using Queena to control Ian, she would need to be alive, wouldn't she? Now they're saying they found her ashes? What in the world was going on?

"Are we certain those ashes are hers?"

"Positive. The task force has verified it, and Queena left a suicide note that mentioned Mr. Raymond. Now, with Mr. Raymond locked up, and Bernard facing dismissal, there's no higher-ups left to throw Mr. Raymond a lifeline."

When self-interest was at stake, everyone had their own agenda. And Bernard, having been in power for so many years, had barely made a misstep - except for that time he let Ian whisk Patric away.

Now that there was a chance to oust him, who would want to let that opportunity slip by?

Maja's face grew stern. The whole point of having Fitch release Queena was to keep tabs on Bernard's actions. But this boomerang had come back to hit Ian instead. It seemed Bernard had anticipated this move and had set Ian up to take the fall.

Now with Ian in a coma, was he really going to be carted off to prison unconscious?

"Who's in charge of Ian's transfer?"

"It's Rachel from the task force. Ms. Pennyfeather, she's a tough nut to crack and is notorious for not giving two hoots about anyone's reputation."

Maja rubbed her temples and wasted no time in getting Rachel's number. When Rachel picked up the call and heard it was about Ian, the corner of her mouth curled up in scorn.
