Chapter 182 

Maja suddenly felt so uneasy that she almost automatically took her hand away from Maureen’s. 

But Maureen didn’t let go. She just gazed puzzledly at Rita. 

Rita’s face was pale, she looked first at Ryan, then at Maja, and finally stopped at the two hands that were being held. She knew Ms. Raymond. She had planned to visit Ms. Raymond the night before and had even spent her salary on a suitable gift. But because of Ryan’s call, she had to return home first. 

Rita knew she wasn’t Ryan’s social equal, but she really liked Ryan, and Ryan was good to her. 

But what was going on now? 

Ryan’s mom was holding hands with Ryan and Penny? 

Wasn’t Penny already married? 

Penny even had an improper relationship with Mr. Raymond and from the looks of it, she was still Ryan’s girlfriend. 

The relationship was so messed up that Rita was disgusted. 

She had always considered Maja a friend, but it turned out that Maja had been deceiving her the entire time! 

Thinking back to when Maja comforted her by saying that Ms. Raymond, as a woman, wouldn’t be harsh to other women, Rita couldn’t imagine what Maja was thinking when she said that. 

Rita felt humiliated. Tears welled up in her eyes and started to stream down her face. 

Even so, she had to unveil Maja’s true colors. 

She strode up and slapped Ryan across his face, crying and cursing, “You jerk!” 

After shouting, she turned to Maja, raising her hand to slap her as well. 

But Maja blocked her hand and managed to pull her hand away from Maureen’s grip. 

Rita was crying uncontrollably, and she was at a loss for words. 

Maja understood Rita’s feelings, but she was also dragged into this by Ryan, so there was no need for Rita to slap her too. 

She looked at Ryan. As his girlfriend, he should explain what was going on. 

But before Ryan could say anything, Maureen had already regained her composure and asked in a calm voice. 

“Who is this?” 

Perhaps her voice was too steady. Rita felt like she had found someone who could help her. She raised her hand and rubbed her eyes, weeping and saying, “My lady, I’m Ryan’s girlfriend. Wasn’t Penny already married? How could she be Ryan’s girlfriend? And she had an improper relationship with Mr. Raymond. Are Ryan and Mr. Raymond both dating her at the same time? That makes me feel so sick…” 

Rita couldn’t stop crying, choking on her sobs. She felt utterly humiliated. 

Thinking back to how she had taken care of Maja the night before, she wondered if Maja had been laughing at her all along. 

She was no match for these people. 

Rita didn’t dare to look into Maureen’s eyes and walked towards her home, still crying. 

Finally, Ryan came to his senses and hurried after her, catching up with Rita. 

“Rita, Penny and I aren’t like that.” 

Rita was sobbing, trying to shake off his hand but was also reluctant to let go. 

After witnessing the whole scene, Maureen’s face turned gloomy, and her gaze at Maja was no longer as gentle. 

Maja also sensed her change in mood and sighed inwardly. 

Maureen looked at Maja, smiled lightly but her attitude had obviously turned cold. 

“Penny, let’s all go inside and have a good chat.” 

Maja didn’t dare to refuse and stepped aside to let Ms. Raymond enter. 

Maureen walked in first, followed by Ryan who was holding the still sobbing Rita. Maja walked in last and closed the door.
