Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja) novel Chapter 249

Chapter 249

lan had just hopped in the car when his phone started buzzing-it was a call from Carlene.

“lan, I’ve been waiting here for twenty minutes, where are you?”

lan glanced at his wristwatch, “Just got out of a meeting. I’ll be there in twenty.”

“Always so buried in your work, how could you leave me standing here?”

“Find somewhere to sit.

Carlene went quiet for a moment, her eyes welling up

“lan, you’ve changed so much. You weren’t like this.”

lan rubbed his temples, his tone flat, “I’m heading your way now, already booked a table for us.”

Carlene’s face brightened up a bit, “Okay, I’ll wait.”

After hanging up, lan zoned out in his seat.

Jeff, in the front, stole a glance at him through the rear-view mirror. He kept his hands on the wheel, saying nothing.

Twenty minutes later, the car pulled up at the airport.

Carlene had been waiting outside. Seeing lan’s car, her face lit up. She hurried over and flung the car door open.

“lan!”

She whispered his name and hugged him tightly, “I’ve missed you so much.”

lan stiffened, not responding.

Carlene held on for a moment, then smiled, “Let’s go eat. Jeff, step on it, I’m starving.”

She let him go and took a seat.

lan reached out and stowed her suitcase by his feet. She had brought a tiny suitcase, no need to put it in the trunk. Carlene felt a warmth spread

in her chest seeing him do this. With his undeniably attractive looks and current demeanor, lan seemed particularly charming

Carlene blushed a bit, smiling.

“I’m sorry for saying you’ve changed, you haven’t. You’re still so good to me

lan didn’t respond, he leaned back after putting the suitcase away.

“How’s life abroad?”

“You never called. If I hadn’t reached out, were you planning on never contacting me?”

Carlene sounded a bit upset. She was brought up in the Shepard family, always knowing how to read people’s feelings, and always considerate But with lan, she acted delicate, as if she craved his care.

Seeing the name of the restaurant, Carlene smiled again. She loved this place.

“lan, you remember what I like.”

The car stopped at the entrance. A white-gloved waiter came to open the door.

Carlene smiled politely at him, but when she saw lan getting out, she couldn’t help but speak up.

“Are we going to see your wife after dinner?”

She had just gotten back but was eager to meet that woman.

lan’s face hardened hearing this, “Why would we see her?”

Seeing his reluctance to bring up that woman, Carlene couldn’t help her smug feeling. That woman was clearly of no value to him.

“I just want to see the woman Holden values so much, to see what type she really is.”

“Just because she once saved Holden”

So, he had a particular bias against that woman. Hearing his indifferent tone, Carlene couldn’t help but grab his arm.

“You really don’t like her at all?”
