A few hours ago, Wyatt was about to knock off work and visit Neil. 

Neil hadn’t been showing up at the hospital lately, and their phone calls had let Wyatt know that Neil wasn’t doing great, having made a few trips to the hospital himself. 

Neil’s absence these past few days had Wyatt somewhat worried. 

Despite some beef between him and the Pennyfeather family over Maja three years ago, Neil had kept him on board at the company, which offered Wyatt some solace. 

Now he wanted to swing by Neil’s office and drop off a document. Carter Booth had been speaking for Neil these past few days, which gave Wyatt a bit of a gut ache. 

Carter might have been with Neil for a while, but Wyatt figured he was the one who knew Neil first. 

How could a forty–something assistant boss him around now? 

The company’s top floor was deserted by now; Wyatt saw that the office door was ajar. As he heard Cristina Perkins‘ voice, he was about to push it open. 

Cristina also worked at the company, and Neil had assigned her a position that wasn’t too high or low. Although she didn’t hold absolute power, she occasionally participated in decision–making. 

At this moment, Cristina was far from her usual virtuous and quiet self and making improper noises. 

“Carter, you’re amazing, faster.” 

“You’re way better than Neil. Once we get the company, I’ll buy you a villa.” 

“Glenn is already trying to deal with Maja. Don’t worry, I will complete the task you gave me, Carter…” 

Carter chuckled coldly and carried on. 

Wyatt, standing outside the door, couldn’t believe his ears. 

This was his friend’s office, but the people inside were his friend’s wife and assistant. 

He was startled and stepped back, accidentally stepping on a mop and causing noise. 

Immersed in pleasure, Cristina hadn’t noticed, but Carter, still somewhat sober, had his gaze sharpened. 

“Who’s there?” 

He quickly pulled his pants on and stepped out of the office; seeing no one, he frowned. 

Cristina followed him, “What’s wrong?” 

Carter glanced at the surveillance camera not far away and sneered, “It’s nothing; I’ll go check it out. You don’t need to worry; get Glenn to start acting immediately. Otherwise, we’ll always live in fear.” 

Cristina wrapped her arms around Carter’s waist, showing a hint of girlish shyness, “Don’t worry, I’ve already issued the order.” 

In the present, Wyatt was still waiting for Maja in the private room but was stormed in by a few strangers and kept being force–fed alcohol. He was now starting to black out, unable to utter a single plea. 

The bar he had told Maja wasn’t the same bar where lan was. Though in the same district, it was still three hundred meters 

away. 

As Maja was leaving, she received a text from a stranger asking her to pick up lan. 

However, since the number wasn’t saved, she thought it was just someone pulling her leg. 

After all, if lan was genuinely drunk and needed someone to pick him up, Carlene was back; there was no need for her, his wife in name, to pick him up. 

This message was very likely sent by Carlene herself to put pressure on her. 

Maja didn’t pay it any mind and headed straight to the bar where Wyatt was.
