On the other side, lan returned to Greenfield Gardens but didn’t find Maja. He gave her a ring. 

Maja had just left the dance floor and was standing at the entrance of the lounge, a quieter area. 

“Mr. Raymond.” 

“Where have you been?” 

She initially wanted to say the bar, but worried lan would come, she made up an excuse. 

“I’m working overtime.” 

“Mind your rest.” 

Both of them were tired from the day, and she was still slugging away. Could her body even take it? 

‘Thanks for your concern, Mr. Raymond.” 

lan felt a bit off when he heard her polite tone. It felt like the intimacy they shared last night wasn’t between the two of them. 

With reluctance, he ended the call. 

Just as he sat down, the doorbell rang. 

Thinking it was Maja, he quickly got up to answer the door.

“Grandpa.”

If Grandpa found out that Connie’s situation was related to Penny, he wouldn’t let her off the hook.

“The higher–ups are already investigating the kidnappers‘ identities. They all snuck in illegally. There’s a lot of pressure at the border recently, plus some insiders are collaborating with them. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have had access to so many guns.” 

lan quietly listened while his mind already elsewhere. 

He lowered his head and saw a message from Tyler. 

“Ran into Penny at the bar. She wants to see Beck.” 

His blood boiled at the message. 

He suppressed the turmoil in his eyes, but with Holden there, he had to keep his cool. 

“lan?” 

Holden called his name a few times. Seeing him lost in thought, he frowned, “What are you thinking about?” 

lan lowered his head, “Grandpa. There are people specifically assigned to investigate this matter.” 

“These people weren’t targeting your brother, they went to Crystalbrook Valley. What do you think they were after?” 

“I’m not sure.” 

He said, but the image of Maja digging something up came to mind. 

After leaving the tower, Maja rushed to dig. Did she know something? 

If those people weren’t after Eric’s research, what were they after? 

They took over a hundred hostages; Maja was one of them, and she was brought over from Greenfield. 

fan’s lips tightened. If all of this was related to Penny, who was she really?

He quickly rose, grabbed his coat, and prepared to leave.
