It’s working! Terrance thought his efforts hadn’t been for nothing when he saw the 

touch of warmth on Alaric’s face, and he asked excitedly, “Shall we eat something, 

Mr. Cadogan?” 

Lo and behold, Alaric’s answer came like a wet blanket thrown onto him. “Did I say I 

want to eat? Didn’t I tell you not to do anything unnecessary?” 

Terrance was stunned. “Why? Weren’t you just…” 

The hint of warmth in the corner of Alaric’s eyes had disappeared, and now, he had 

returned to the distant and aloof man he usually was.

who is well capable of deciding whether he should or needs to eat. If he refuses to 

eat, it only means that he knows how his body is doing.”
