Chapter 252
At that moment, Victoria opened the door to find Alaric standing in front of the
bathroom door.

He had walked himself over with his IV drip in tow. Then, the anxious look in his eyes
faded when he saw her walk out.
In the meantime, she noticed the gray pallor on his face. After a beat, she asked,
“How many bags before you’re done?”
“I’m not sure. I can ask if you want to know.”
On the other hand, Victoria did not respond to Alaric but instead walked over to the
clipboard and flipped through the pages. After that, she told him, “You’re on your
last bag.”
“I see,” he replied. His eyes remained trained on her. Even though she just sobbed
her heart out, she seems awfully composed right now.
“Oh, that’s right. Your clothes…” She turned to open the nearby closet and pulled out
a brand new patient gown. “I’m so sorry that I soaked your clothes. Why don’t you
change into a new gown?”

After hearing that, Alaric glanced at the damp spot on his clothing before staring at
Victoria and the gown she offered him. Then, he pursed his lips and said, “It’s fine.
It’ll dry soon.”
“You’re already sick, and catching a cold will slow your recovery.”
However, he kept staring at her for a while before finally explaining, “I can’t move my
hands.”
Suddenly, she realized he probably couldn’t change his clothes because an IV drip
was hooked up to his arm. Without a word, she turned around and grabbed a dry
towel to drape over his shoulder. Although it was not the optimal solution, it was
preferable to doing nothing.
In contrast, Alaric never foresaw the day Victoria would quietly stand by his side and
care for him. At that moment, he realized that his plan had succeeded, but
something still didn’t feel quite right because she was acting too calmly.
After a while, she removed the towel from his shoulder. Then, she set it down and
said, “It’s getting late. I have to go.”
When he heard this, his eyes narrowed, and he asked, “Go where?” After that, he
subconsciously grasped her slender wrist and held it firmly. Now that I’ve finally

lured her over, how could she leave?

Victoria was rendered speechless by Alaric’s action, and she looked down at the
hand wrapped around her wrist before gently pulling it away. “I have to go home.”
However, his hold on her hand was so firm that she could not wriggle free of it. Out
of options, she added, “I’ll be back tomorrow.”
At that moment, her words caused him to relax and let the tension bleed out of his
body. “Really? You’ll be back tomorrow?”
“Yes.” She nodded and uttered, “Didn’t the doctor say you need to rest? I’ll be taking
care of you during this time.”
Before Alaric could ask why, Victoria asked, “What do you want for breakfast
tomorrow?”
Those words eventually derailed his train of thought, and he replied, “I’m fine with
anything. I’ll eat whatever you make.”
“Okay. I’ll bring you breakfast tomorrow morning, but I won’t be able to stop by for
lunch.”
“Okay, Terrance will deal with it.”

“Alright. I have to go now.”
Even though he felt more at ease, he still held on to her hand and refused to let her
As soon as Victoria heard that, she knew exactly who Alaric was referring to, so she
hesitated before responding, “No.”

Having obtained the desired response, he heaved a sigh of relief as the corner of his
mouth curled upward. “Okay. Go home.” After saying that, he gradually let go of her
wrist.
“I’m off then,” she said. Immediately after he released her, she turned and walked
away without hesitation.
After he saw that, his once bright eyes had once again darkened.
Meanwhile, Victoria had her hand on the doorknob when Alaric called her. So, she
stopped in her tracks and turned to look at him. “What is it?”
“You will be back tomorrow?”
She was surprised by the question and replied, “Of course. I always keep my word.
Any other questions?”

However, he pursed his lips and said nothing.

“Well, I’m going.” Following his silence in response to her statement, she turned and
left the room.
Shortly after her departure, the room fell silent, and Alaric lowered his gaze as
darkness raged in them.
When Victoria exited the room, she spotted Terrance standing guard nearby. At that
time, he was leaning against the wall and brooding after being sent out of the room
due to his misspoken words. Then, he straightened up when he heard the door
open, and when he saw her, he shot her a guilty look and said haltingly, “Miss
Selwyn…”
After hearing that, she walked over to speak with him like nothing had happened.
He listened attentively to her while nodding and asked, “Very well. Shall I buy him
dinner as well?”
“Yes. Also, if he refuses to eat it, tell him I won’t return tomorrow.”
“Okay,” Terrance said, nodding hard. “No problem. Thank you, Miss Selwyn. Why
don’t I drive you home?”

“No, it’s fine.” Victoria quickly rejected his offer and walked away.
As he watched her walk away, his heart raced with gratitude. I never expected her to
be so sweet, and despite how Mr. Cadogan had treated her before, she was still
willing to pay him a visit tomorrow. Does that mean there’s still a chance for him to
get better?
In the meantime, Victoria turned and stopped at the corner, leaning against the
nearby wall with her hand resting on it as her face turned pallid. Then, she took a
brief break before moving on. Despite her best efforts, she could not stop thinking
about Griselda’s death.
