Elizabeth tried hard to struggle. Compared with the sharp pain, she was more worried that there would be a hickey on her neck, a solid proof of their affair. Yet, Marvin tortured her on purpose as if intending to gulp her down. Not until Elizabeth’s eyes went crimson with a threat of tears did he let go of her.
Marvin got up to tidy his collars up as if nothing had happened while Elizabeth, totally stripped, couldn’t be more wretched.
Marvin left in silence with an ironic smile.
...
Waiting downstairs for quite a long time, Ann came up with a pout the moment Marvin appeared. “Are you busy? How come you keep me waiting that long?”
Marvin rubbed the tip of her nose dotingly.
"Well, I’m dealing with some business."
Ann was unconvinced. "But Eliza came out of your room just now..."
With a slight frown, Marvin held Ann’s shoulder, his tone casual. "Well, Eliza made some mistakes and was criticized by me. Perhaps, she was sobbing now."
Ann always thought that this brother and sister were quite close. Marvin pampered Elizabeth so much even as a father did to his daughter, perhaps, because he was much older than her.
Loving Marvin for many years, she, sometimes couldn’t help but feel jealous of Elizabeth...
"Eliza is more submissive than me. Why did you reprimand her for no reason?"
Marvin, wrapping his arm around her waist, sat down with Ann before feeding her a cherry. He produced a meaningful smile with his eyes narrowed. "She, well, just pretends to be obedient but, in fact, is quite stubborn. God knows how I would be messed with if I didn’t discipline her."
Although his tone was casual, Ann, somehow, sensed their unusual closeness. What a nuisance!
Elizabeth soon came downstairs and was asked by Ann to find her a dress for the engagement party. The joy on her face couldn’t be more obvious. "I didn’t expect the engagement party to be that grand. It’s a must to choose five or six dresses. How annoying!" Elizabeth chose several for her. Ann glanced at her neck from time to time.
"Eliza, is your neck injured?"
She reached out to touch it but Elizabeth avoided her at once.
"I was bitten by a mosquito and the swelling began bleeding as I scratched it to relieve the itch. Elizabeth tried hard to keep calm.
Ann stared at the red mark for a long time. Given their friendship, Elizabeth would not lie to her randomly. Yet, jealousy began surging within her when she remembered Marvin’s attitude toward Elizabeth.
