Chloe knew all too well. For the foreseeable future, she’d have to stay on her toes, ready for anything that came her way. Returning to Eldridge City meant she was bound to face one storm after another.
Grant seemed to catch the underlying message in Chloe's words. He said with a touch of detachment, “Being the daughter-in-law of the richest family around isn’t a walk in the park. Everyone in that family has their own agenda, all targeting one person. Is diving into this never-ending battle really worth it?”
Chloe shrugged it off casually, “For the love of my life, the one I want by my side forever? Absolutely, it’s worth it.” She set down a photo and added, “Besides, I don’t think this is a war without end. Peace will come eventually.”
Seeing her resolve and lack of fear, Grant didn’t push further. He set up an office for Chloe and gave her a personal tour of the company. Everyone there knew who she was. Her identity had been made public at the last QUEEN global jewelry show. She was QUEEN’s famous MISSY. So, naturally, she was met with the utmost respect by everyone.
That afternoon, a company-wide management meeting took place. It was officially announced that Chloe had joined QUEEN as the Chief Designer. However, she still hadn’t encountered the elusive MISS X or MISS Z. Curiosity got the better of her, and she asked about them.
Grant explained, “MISS Z is currently down in South Africa handling the setup of a diamond factory and won’t be back for a while. As for MISS X, you’ll meet him tonight.”
The welcome dinner was held in a VIP room at Pure White. About twenty folks showed up, mostly major shareholders and top execs. It was a young crowd, unlike most corporate gatherings, which made for a lively atmosphere. Naturally, Chloe was most intrigued by MISS X. She introduced herself to everyone at the table, yet he was nowhere in sight.
