"Do you really think I'm not worth your trust? You honestly believe there's something going on with me and my friend, don't you?" Chloe's voice had a sharp edge.
Connor didn't say a word. His fingers gripped his phone so tightly that his knuckles turned white. He trusted Chloe, without a doubt. He knew there was nothing shady between her and Grant. He knew Chloe would never betray him like that. So, what was eating him up inside?
It was Grant. Grant wasn't the upstanding guy he pretended to be. Connor saw him as a wolf in disguise, always lurking around Chloe. But Chloe refused to see it. She couldn't see the ulterior motives Connor was convinced Grant had. To Connor, Grant was a ticking time bomb just waiting to go off. The thought made him uneasy every single second.
What got him the most was Chloe's obliviousness to it all.
"I never said there was anything between you and your friend," Connor finally replied.
Chloe's voice was tinged with anger and disappointment. "Then what are you worried about? Afraid that over time, something might actually happen?"
Connor stayed silent, his thoughts in turmoil.
Chloe let out a bitter laugh. "After everything we've been through, do you really have so little faith in me?"
"Chloe, Grant likes you. Do you know that?"
There was a long pause on the other end. "Why do you keep saying that? I told you, my friend isn't into women."
