The kitten, still spooked by the light, refused to come out from under the bed.
Vespera stood up from the floor. "I'll go buy it something tasty later. Once it smells food, it'll come out on its own."
Dominic rose as well, settling onto the edge of the bed. "Ms. Gildon, do you like this little kitten?"
"Of course, I do. Who could resist something this cute?" she replied without hesitation.
But then her expression shifted, brow furrowing. "Wait, where did it even come from?"
Dominic answered casually, "Oh, I'm guessing it was Eden's gift."
Vespera's eyes narrowed slightly.
"Mr. Locke's gift to his beloved little… wife? No—husband? Wow. He really goes all out," she thought.
Dominic flicked her forehead lightly. "Stop overthinking it."
Vespera rubbed the spot with a scowl.
She rolled her eyes inwardly. Overthinking? Please. They were practically soulmates in front of Samuel just a few hours ago.
"Ms. Gildon," Dominic said suddenly.
"Hmm?" Vespera looked at him.
Since he was seated, her gaze naturally lowered. Their eyes met—his were deep, warm, and somehow dangerous.
Like a velvet swamp bubbling with something sweet and heady, in the blink of an eye, she was sinking, trapped, and breathless.
The playful mood vanished in an instant. Her heart started pounding like someone had cranked up the volume.
"I believe in you. So, do you believe you can beat Eden?" he asked casually, his voice almost lazy but undeniably seductive.
Vespera didn't answer. Her lashes fluttered like butterfly wings—delicate and uncertain. Just like the tightrope she felt she was walking.
She was frozen, caught in the moment. The air felt different now.
Then, after a long pause, she suddenly lit up with mock realization. "Oh! You meant raising the cat, Mr. Reid."
She put on a conflicted expression. "You know, I had a cat before. Got it all shiny and healthy—people loved it, flowers bloomed in its presence, total superstar.
